Postal Delivery Driver (Postie) – Fixed Term Contract (9 Months)
Location: Oldham Delivery Office, OL1 1AA
Job Type: Fixed term contract (9 months)
Key Details
- Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available
- Hours: 30 hours per week (5 days in 7) – rota shifts between 15:00–21:00 (covering weekdays and Sundays)
About the Role
Join Royal Mail and become a trusted Postie (Postal Delivery Driver). You’ll deliver letters and parcels in Oldham, acting as the face of our service while staying active, remaining connected to your community, and enjoying rewarding benefits.
Your schedule will include rotating shifts, potentially on Sundays, with a rota confirming exact hours and routes, which may change to meet demand.
What You’ll Do
- Sort and manage letters and parcels at the delivery office
- Deliver mail by van or on foot within your local area
- Build strong relationships with customers
- Work outdoors across all weathers, staying active throughout each shift
This isn’t just about delivery; you’ll make meaningful connections by delivering:

What to Expect
This position is physically demanding and fast-paced. Each day brings:
- Up to 12 miles per shift (or 20,000+ steps)
- Daily driving of a Royal Mail van
- Operating in all weather conditions (rain, sun, wind)
- Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels under time constraints
- Potential time pressures, particularly during peak periods
About You
We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and a red poster van, but we need the right person for the role. Here are our requirements:
🔹 A valid full UK driving licence (with ✅ no more than 6 penalty points) 🔹 Registered to your current address and name 🔹 Willing to drive daily and pass a Royal Mail van assessment
🔹 Physically fit, comfortable with:
- Walking long distances (up to 12 miles daily)
- Climbing stairs and hills
- Lifting and carrying mailbags weighing 10kg+
🔹 Self-motivated and reliable with excellent organisation skills 🔹 Strong resilience to cope with a high-pressure environment 🔹 Customer-focused, proud of delivering excellent service every time 🔹 Prefer working outdoors and independently

Additional Note: Roles offering 35-37 hours/week are listed as full-time; however, any role under 37 hours will be part-time in employment terms.
