Job Details
- Type: Fixed Term contract (amend/delete if not applicable)
- Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly), paid overtime available
- Working Hours: 35 hours per week across 7 days (Monday–Sunday), rotating shifts (typically 09:00–16:00) Note:April comprises Sundays at (location) Delivery Office (if applicable)
The Role
Royal Mail is seeking a deliver y driver—a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver)—to deliver letters and parcels across Edinburgh while fostering community connections.
As a Postie, you’ll work independently across Mon–Sun, delivering organisation, resilience and a customer-focused attitude. Rotating shifts including weekends keep you active and aligned with customer demands.
Key Responsibilities
- Sort letters and parcels at our Leith Delivery Office
- Deliver mail both by van and on foot within your allocated route
- Build strong relationships with residents and businesses
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions, remaining active throughout the day

Expectations & Realities
- Physical Stamina:
- Walk up to 12 miles daily (~20,000+ steps)
- Ability to carry up to 20kg with bending/aching
- Drive the Official vans under delivery demands
- Weatherproof uniforms provided (winter wear required)
- Time Management:
- Steady volume mail peaks; high demand in festive/holiday periods
- Flexible timing adjusting to post flow—all-hours DD influx achievable
About You
You’re the right candidate if...
✔ Driving License: Full manual UK licence (no more than six penalty points), registered under current name and address ✔ Vehicle Ability: Ability to learn manually and mantain Royal Mail van standards ✔ Stamina & Mobility:
- Territory places require long steps uphill
- Daily ability to lift 15kg mailbags
- Stamina to navigate varying terrain ✔ Attitude & Skills:
- Consistent reliability + self-motivation
- Resilient to fast-paced conditions
- Outstanding customer experience focus
- Willingness to help Royal Mail uphold Standards in delivery (e.g. handling registered e-high-value parcels securely)
