Delivery Driver (Postal Delivery Driver) – Fixed Term Contract
Location: Kirkwall Delivery Office, KW15 1AA Salary: £13.68 per hour (paid monthly) + paid overtime available Working Hours: 32:05 hours per week, across (X) days in 7 (Mon–Sun) – 09:45–16:45
The Role
Join Royal Mail as a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) and become the trusted face of our service, delivering letters and parcels in Kirkwall. This physically demanding role keeps you active outdoors, connects you with your community, and offers rewarding daily challenges.
Key Tasks
- Sort letters and parcels at the delivery office
- Deliver mail via van and on foot in your local area

What the Role Demands
This is a fast-paced, physical job:
- Walking up to 12 miles/day (~20,000 steps)
- Daily driving (Royal Mail van + driving assessment required)
- Operational in any weather (rain, wind, cold, heat)
- High-volume deliveries, including parcels
- Peak surges (e.g., festive, event periods)
About You
Essential Requirements
- UK manual driving licence (max 6 penalty points), registered to your current address.
- Willingness to learn to drive a Royal Mail van + pass a driving assessment.
- Physically fit for: long walks, hill/stair climbs, lifting 10kg+ mailbags.
- Self-motivated, reliable, detail-oriented.
- Customer focus: Resilient under pressure and proud of exemplary service.
- Comfortable working outdoors/independently, often uns sociated.
