Senior Consultant – Power Systems Engineering

About the Role Do meaningful work to tackle climate challenges while delivering high-impact consulting projects globally. As a Senior Consultant – Power Systems Engineering, you’ll drive technical excellence in power systems studies, lead bids for high-value projects, and guide team members in delivering exceptional client services.
This role empowers you to:
- Lead a power systems consulting team, including the delivery of studies critical to decarbonisation—from grid stability and protection coordination to complex multi-disciplinary proposals.
- Bid for and secure work while building strong, long-term client relationships;
- Advocate for sustainable energy solutions while mastering advanced software tools (e.g., DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, PSCAD).
- Represent WSP in technical discussions and influence project direction, supporting the global energy transition.
Key Responsibilities
In partnership with the Power Systems team, you will:

Technical Delivery
- Lead complex power systems studies with a focus on control interaction, protection coordination, arc flash analysis, and grid connection support for onshore/offshore projects.
- Ensure thermal load flow studies, voltage/frequency stability analysis, transient overvoltage simulations, and harmonic studies meet international standards.
- Author and review technical metering services for proposals and client engagement – ensuring quality, clarity, and persuasion.

Project Leadership & Client Success
- Direct multi-disciplinary project teams to deliver high-quality, on-time, and client-focused solutions, using tools like Agile/Scrum methodologies when applicable.
- Secure new business by crafting compelling tender responses and identifying synergies across WSP’s portfolio of services.
- Foster trusting client relationships—advising industry leaders on technical challenges while positioning WSP as a trusted partner in the energy transition.

Team Growth & Mentorship
- Provide training and guidance to team members sharpening technical skills, software capabilities, and client engagement techniques.
- Monitor professional development and encourage certification (e.g., Chartered Engineer progression).

Technical & Software Leadership
- Stay ahead of industry trends and benchmark emerging technologies for power systems consulting.
- Champion best practices in software tools (e.g., DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSS/E) and drive innovation in WSP’s technical methodologies.
Requirements
Essential
- Bachelor’s Degree (or Higher) in Electrical Engineering, specialising in Power Systems or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in power systems consulting, with familiarity in:
- Advanced electrical transients, protection systems, and grid connection studies.
- Energy regulations, standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE), and third-party accreditation programs.**
- Demonstrated portfolio of market bids/wins through technical excellence in proposals and proposal writing.
- Proven track record of client relationship management, including direct client contact, technical advisory, and strategic partnership-building.
- Strong technical software skills (e.g., DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, PSCAD).
- Ability to perform multifaceted workloads—balancing multiple projects and adapting to tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
Desirable
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional accreditation.
- Mastery in industry-standard simulation/planning tools (e.g., DigSilent PowerFactory, PSCAD, ETAP, CDEGS, PSD-BASE).
- Commercial awareness of renewable energy sectors, smart grids, and recent technological advancements (e.g., 배를ioned energy resources).
- Experience of working in UK-based energy consultancy, supporting onshore/offshore wind/solar projects.
- Postgraduate degree or professional certificate in business development, project management, or mgmt. (e.g., Project Management Professional).
