As part of our continued support to a major automotive client, we are seeking a Powertrain Systems Engineer to support the development and integration of powertrain systems within high-performance vehicle programmes. Reporting to the Senior Powertrain Engineer, the role focuses on system-level engineering, ensuring that powertrain subsystems operate cohesively to meet vehicle performance, efficiency, and reliability targets. You will work with a team of powertrain engineers and technical experts to analyse system behaviour, resolve issues, and support the integration of powertrain technologies across vehicle platforms. Responsibilities Powertrain System Integration Support the development and integration of powertrain systems across vehicle platforms. Ensure seamless interaction between engine, transmission, electric drive systems, and auxiliary components. Collaborate with vehicle integration teams to ensure system compatibility. System Analysis & Problem Resolution Analyse system performance data and identify areas for improvement. Apply structured problem-solving methodologies to diagnose and resolve system issues. Support root cause investigations using tools such as RCA, Fishbone analysis, and IS/IS NOT methodologies. Programme Delivery Ensure system deliverables align with programme timing, cost, and quality targets. Support design release activities in line with the Engineering Timing Release Schedule (ETRS). Engineering Documentation Maintain system-level documentation including technical specifications, DFMEA, and validation plans. Support BoM management and configuration control through SAP. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with engineering teams across vehicle systems including chassis, electrical, and thermal management. Provide technical input to programme reviews and support project reporting activities. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline. 2:1 degree classification or above desirable. Essential skills Strong understanding of powertrain system architecture and integration. Ability to analyse system-level performance and identify improvement opportunities. Experience applying structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D and Root Cause Analysis. Knowledge of DFMEA, DVP, and technical specification documentation. Experience using CATIA V5 (2D & 3D) for engineering investigation and design activities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools for documentation and reporting. Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering disciplines and suppliers. Desired skills Familiarity with APQP processes including DFMEA and validation planning. Knowledge of vehicle attribute development and performance analysis. Experience Experience working within automotive OEM or Tier-1 powertrain engineering environments is desirable. Involvement in vehicle system integration and development programmes. Experience collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams.
