Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) – PPE and Systems Officer

Salary & Pay Progression

  • Grade E – £34,434 to £37,280 per annum (rising by annual increments to £37,280)
    • Pay award pending; full details available on our pay policies page
    • Hours: Full-time (37 hours per week)
    • Contract: Permanent
    • Location: Trowbridge Fire Station (limited remote working option)

Key Responsibilities

As the PPE and Systems Officer within our Assets department, you will:

  • Oversee the wide-ranging service-wide PPE function, including:
    • Issuing a variety of PPE equipment
    • Managing stock levels and contracts
    • Supporting research and development of new products
    • Collaborating with the Supplies Manager to implement improved working practices
  • Manage the Respiratory Protection Equipment (RPE) programme, ensuring compliance with:
    • RPE face fit standards (INDG479)
    • Health & Safety at Work Act
  • Assist with budget forecasting, stock control, and working toward greater operating efficiencies across PPE and Supplies in consultation with Supplies Manager and Fleet and Equipment Manager.

Requirements

Relative criteria for success include:

Essential Experience & Competencies

  • Proven experience in Level 3 (Risk Assessment) equivalent or willingness to attain an IOSH Managing Safely qualification
  • Familiarity with Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships internally and externally with various stakeholders

Other Critical Requirements

  • Full valid driving licence (Manual transmission preferred for service vehicles)
    • Service vehicles may be required; occasional multi-county travel (wiltshire + dorset)
    • Adjustments made for applicants who cannot drive due to disability
  • Occasional evening/weekend work possible
  • Standard DBS check required
  • Full pre-employment checks, including identity, right to work, medical & references
  • Commitment to ** Occupational Health health surveillance**
