Athena Sports Group
Athena Sports Group is seeking a full-time PR and Communications Manager to join its Marketing and Communications team.
The role will primarily focus on the Emirates GBR SailGP Team and the GB1 America's Cup Team, while also supporting the Athena Pathway Programme, including Britain's Women's and Youth America's Cup Teams.
This position will support the Group's efforts to increase the visibility, awareness, and engagement of its teams. The role will be based at Athena Sports Group's office in Portsmouth, UK, and will require international travel.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement effective communications strategies across earned and owned media to significantly raise awareness.
- Lead and deliver the marketing and communications plan for Emirates GBR's participation in the SailGP Portsmouth event, driving national and international media coverage while increasing digital engagement.
- Develop and execute influencer strategies at both global and local levels across SailGP events, as well as GB1 and Athena Pathway Programme events involving Athena Sports Group teams.
- Secure national, regional, and international media attendance and coverage for GB1's participation in the America's Cup, as well as for Athena Pathway teams competing in the Youth and Women's America's Cup.
- Deliver the overall team communications plan, working closely with the social, digital, and content teams.
- Support the commercial and partnerships teams in communicating Athena Sports Group's sporting properties and partnerships. Develop creative PR activation and communications plans that maximise value for commercial partners.
- Drive Athena Sports Group's media relations strategy by fostering relationships with consumer and trade media, developing compelling stories, and securing year-round coverage across key publications.
- Support the Head of Communications and Content in delivering the strategic media plan, including managing media requests and securing national and international coverage.
- Develop communications plans to promote Athena Sports Group's sustainability initiatives and purpose-driven agenda through B2B and B2C channels, working closely with its charity partner, the 1851 Trust.
- Write, edit, and distribute press releases, event recaps, media materials, key messaging, website copy, award submissions, briefing documents, and other internal and external communications.
- Capture behind-the-scenes content and event highlights for the team's social media channels.
- Secure speaking opportunities for key team members and commercial partners.
- Manage global media monitoring, analysis, and reporting against departmental KPIs.

Background
- Five or more years' relevant experience in PR, communications, media relations, or a related field.
- Excellent verbal, written, analytical, and organisational communication skills.
- Knowledge of the global media landscape, with established media relationships preferred.
- Proven success in the PR or media industry within sport and/or entertainment.
- A strong interest in sport and purpose-driven organisations.
- Native-level proficiency in written and spoken English preferred.
- Exceptional storytelling, copywriting, and visual communication skills.
- A confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and experience working with elite athletes and senior stakeholders.

- Willingness to travel within the UK and internationally (approximately 25% of the time).
- A minimum commitment of two days every two weeks working from the Portsmouth office, subject to workflow and event travel.
