Job Overview
Following a review of our educational leadership structure, we are excited to introduce a new Practice Development Lead role within the Emergency Department (ED) and Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC).
We are seeking an experienced senior Emergency Nurse or Allied Health Professional (AHP) with a passion for education to lead our practice development agenda. The post holder will provide strategic leadership to ensure staff training aligns with evidence-based practice, service priorities, and organisational objectives.
As a clinical expert, you will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to identify learning needs and design, deliver, and evaluate educational programmes. You will support staff in developing clinical competence, promoting professional growth, and fostering a culture of inclusion, well-being, and continuous learning.
The role includes leading and influencing a team of Clinical Practice Facilitators, and working closely with the ED Consultant Nurse, Senior Matron, senior leadership team, Trust education leads, and Higher Education Institutions.
Key responsibilities include overseeing professional development across all staff groups, ensuring compliance with statutory and mandatory training, supporting personalised inductions, and contributing to clinical governance, audit, research, and quality improvement.
This role is pivotal in enhancing patient outcomes, improving staff experience, and embedding a culture of excellence within the service.
Please note: applications will be considered for candidates with band 7-level experience in educational delivery who do not yet hold a full education or instructor qualification. We would consider a development role, paid at band 7, whilst these qualifications are achieved, with band 8a awarded on completion. Please see the Band 7 job description that's also attached.

- To ensure that their own practice demonstrates current clinical knowledge and the latest evidence-based practice
- Develop clinical practice in line with national evidence and role model high standards of clinical care and leadership to ED staff

- To produce written accounts of each episode of clinical facilitation, documenting learning achieved and areas for further development
- To demonstrate specialist knowledge in clinical settings and support the advancement of knowledge and skills, using approved assessment procedures.
- To work effectively as part of the multi-professional, inter-disciplinary team, encouraging and supporting other health professions in the promotion and maintenance of an effective learning environment.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
