The Role
Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) seeks an experienced senior nurse to join as a Band 7 Practice Development Nurse on a fixed-term/secondment basis.
Reporting to the Professional Nurse Lead, this opportunity is collaborative, working closely with the CAMHS Practice Development Nurses to advance nursing practice and professional development across all NHSGGC CAMHS teams.
Location: Templeton Business Centre Duration: 17th August 2026 – 31st March 2028 (18 months, fixed-term) Hours: Part-time (18 hours per week, core hours, Monday–Friday) Salary: Pro rata for part-time hours
Key Responsibilities
The Practice Development Nurse will:
- Lead nursing skills and competency development across CAMHS, promoting evidence-based practices aligned with national and local priorities.
- Support policy and standard implementation, including:
- Developing, implementing, and evaluating clinical guidelines, procedures, and policies.
- Ensuring high clinical standards across nursing services.
- Collaborate with:
- Professional Nurse Leads
- Clinical Service Managers
- Senior Charge Nurses
- Multidisciplinary teams
- National CAMHS services (to enhance service improvement and innovation).
- Drive nursing research and quality improvement initiatives, aligning with HR Organizational Development Manager priorities.
- Identify and deliver learning and development needs to nursing staff at all levels.
- Encourage active nursing contribution to:
- Service development
- Modernisation of mental health services

Qualifications, Experience & Essential Skills
Essential Criteria
- Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) or Registered Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD) with current NMC registration.
- Strong communication, leadership, and team-working skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage workloads with minimal supervision.
- In-depth knowledge of:
- Current legislation (including the Mental Health (Care & Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003)
- Child Protection
- Care Assurance frameworks
- Inpatient care approaches
- Leadership in change management with experience supporting professional development in multi-professional/multi-agency settings.
- Computer and IT literacy (including relevant software/hospital systems).
- PVG Scheme Membership/Disclosure Scotland clearance.
Desirable Experiences
- Significant post-registration experience in CAMHS.
- Background in practice development, quality improvement, or clinical education.
- Evidence of research or service improvement involvement.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and patient care enhancement.
