Practicing Data Architect
Senior Data Architect
Location: London
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Data Architect with a minimum of 10 years of experience in:
- Data architecture
- Data engineering
- Large-scale data platform design
This role is ideal for a hands-on Data Architect who can operate at both the architectural and engineering levels, driving:
- Solution design
- Active contribution to implementation and delivery
Hybrid Working Policy
Your daily work location is a blend of:
- Company offices
- Client sites
- Home (100% remote working is not permitted)
Key Responsibilities
- Accountability for solution design within the Bank's EDL (Enterprise Data Lake) and ODS (Operational Data Store) Platforms on Cloudera in AWS, focusing on data design leadership
- End-to-end design of distributed data solutions to meet business needs within broader projects
- Contributing to overall solution planning, including:
- Input to factory estimation processes
- Highlighting technical risks, issues, and assumptions
- Reviewing design artefacts from other architects within the data factory team
- Defining and deriving data best practices, adopting industry standards, and identifying areas requiring improvement in:
- Technology
- Processes
- Producing design deliverables, either independently or as a team member
- Collaborating with the business and programmes to refine data requirements
- Presenting to the Bank’s Architecture Review Board as required
- Engaging with key stakeholders, including:
- Group Data Office
- Cross-business leaders
- Supporting nonfactory solution architects on change initiatives
- Ensuring solutions align with strategic architecture principles and direction
- Reviewing technical team designs to verify alignment with the overall solution design
- Supporting delivery-led iterative sprints, breaking down solutions effectively
- Assistance to engineering functions in the factory, including:
- Mapping
- Testing
- Release processes
- Reviewing requirements and monitoring change requests to ensure the solution remains fit for purpose

Essential Skills and Expertise
- Highly experienced solution architect in designing solutions for:
- Large-scale distributed data projects
- Programmes within complex, multivendor environments
- Deep expertise in distributed data platforms, particularly:
- Cloudera CDH/CDP platform (both On-Premise and Cloud)
- Experience with:
- Large dataset processing
- Streaming data
- Unstructured data sources using technologies such as:
- Cassandra
- HBase
- Kafka
- Spark
- Strong background in:
- ETL pipelines
- Data pipelines, specifically with:
- Modern big data toolsets (e.g., Apache Airflow, NiFi or equivalent)
- Proficiency in programming, including:
- Java
- Python
- Scala
