Senior Data Architect

Location: London

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Data Architect with a minimum of 10 years of experience in:

  • Data architecture
  • Data engineering
  • Large-scale data platform design

This role is ideal for a hands-on Data Architect who can operate at both the architectural and engineering levels, driving:

  • Solution design
  • Active contribution to implementation and delivery

Hybrid Working Policy

Your daily work location is a blend of:

  • Company offices
  • Client sites
  • Home (100% remote working is not permitted)

Key Responsibilities

  • Accountability for solution design within the Bank's EDL (Enterprise Data Lake) and ODS (Operational Data Store) Platforms on Cloudera in AWS, focusing on data design leadership
  • End-to-end design of distributed data solutions to meet business needs within broader projects
  • Contributing to overall solution planning, including:
    • Input to factory estimation processes
    • Highlighting technical risks, issues, and assumptions
  • Reviewing design artefacts from other architects within the data factory team
  • Defining and deriving data best practices, adopting industry standards, and identifying areas requiring improvement in:
    • Technology
    • Processes
  • Producing design deliverables, either independently or as a team member
  • Collaborating with the business and programmes to refine data requirements
  • Presenting to the Bank’s Architecture Review Board as required
  • Engaging with key stakeholders, including:
    • Group Data Office
    • Cross-business leaders
  • Supporting nonfactory solution architects on change initiatives
  • Ensuring solutions align with strategic architecture principles and direction
  • Reviewing technical team designs to verify alignment with the overall solution design
  • Supporting delivery-led iterative sprints, breaking down solutions effectively
  • Assistance to engineering functions in the factory, including:
    • Mapping
    • Testing
    • Release processes
  • Reviewing requirements and monitoring change requests to ensure the solution remains fit for purpose

Essential Skills and Expertise

  • Highly experienced solution architect in designing solutions for:
    • Large-scale distributed data projects
    • Programmes within complex, multivendor environments
  • Deep expertise in distributed data platforms, particularly:
    • Cloudera CDH/CDP platform (both On-Premise and Cloud)
  • Experience with:
    • Large dataset processing
    • Streaming data
    • Unstructured data sources using technologies such as:
      • Cassandra
      • HBase
      • Kafka
      • Spark
  • Strong background in:
    • ETL pipelines
    • Data pipelines, specifically with:
      • Modern big data toolsets (e.g., Apache Airflow, NiFi or equivalent)
  • Proficiency in programming, including:
    • Java
    • Python
    • Scala
