Practitioner Psychologist or CBT Therapist

Vacancy: 2 x Full-Time Permanent Band 7 Psychologists or CBT Therapists

About the Role

The National and Specialist CAMHS OCD, BDD and Related Disorders Service is seeking to recruit 2 x full-time permanent Band 7 Psychologists or CBT Therapists.

This nationally and internationally renowned service is at the forefront of research and clinical practice in paediatric OCD, BDD (Body Dysmorphia Disorder), and related disorders. You will join a growing, busy, and friendly multidisciplinary team dedicated to improving care for children and young people.

Service Overview

The service provides specialist assessment and treatment for children, young people, and their families with:

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD)
  • Related disorders, including:
    • Tourette Syndrome
    • Trichotillomania

You will work alongside:

  • Senior Clinical Psychologists
  • A part-time Consultant Psychiatrist
  • Trainees from various disciplines

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Work

  • Carry and manage your own caseload of children, young people, and their families.
  • Conduct multi-disciplinary assessments in support of the team.
  • Deliver manually-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for the specified disorders:
    • Training available in specialised approaches as needed.
  • Provide structured, evidence-based interventions aligned with national guidelines for OCD and related disorders.

Research & Service Development

  • Contribute to ongoing service developments and research projects within the clinic.
  • Take a lead role in selected audit, research, or innovation initiatives under supervision.
  • Support clinical governance, team learning, and quality improvement.

Team Collaboration

  • Engage in regular individual supervision and team case discussions.
  • Attend Reflective Practice groups to maintain clinical excellence.
  • Foster a Collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment with peers, including Clinical Psychologists, Psychiatrists, and administrative staff.

Headquartered at the Pears Maudsley Centre for Children and Young People (PMCYP), Maudsley Hospital, the team features:

  • A Preponderance of clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, and a Parent Peer Support Worker.
  • Strong administrative and operational support to ensure smooth service delivery.
  • High-demand service with a steady increase in new referrals.

  • Emphasis on reflective practice to enhance clinical skills.
  • Research and audit are integral to the clinical approach.
