Pre-Construction Manager – Infrastructure

BAM UK & Ireland are seeking an experienced and strategic Pre-Construction Manager to lead and coordinate pre-construction activities across the Business Unit and wider Sector. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you’ll drive a consistent and effective approach to opportunity management, resource planning, and bid delivery, ensuring alignment with BAM’s strategic objectives and highest standards.
This is a critical leadership role, providing direction and support to multidisciplinary pre-construction teams while helping secure high-quality opportunities, strengthen client relationships, and deliver sustainable business growth.

Your Team
- This role will be based out of our head offices in Kilsyth or Inverness.
- BAM operates a flexible working policy.
Key Responsibilities

Work with leadership: Cooperate closely with the Sector Pre-Construction Lead and Sector Client Director to focus on preconstruction objectives aligned with the Segment and Sector Operational Plan and long-term strategy.

Opportunity development: Oversee pre-construction solutions for emerging initiatives, helping build a robust pipeline by pre-positioning ahead of bids and providing key insights to the bid team.

Strategic alignment: Review all work-winning decisions (including frameworks) to ensure compliance with strategic direction and client focus, partnering with Segment and Sector Preconstruction teams on opportunity approaches.

Resource and bid support: Engage with the Sector Pre-Construction Lead to allocate appropriate resources for each opportunity, ensuring profitable and sustainable project delivery.

Specialist resource management: Work with the central Preconstruction Team to source specialist bid expertise.

Bij team collaboration: Support Bid Managers in preparing and delivering winning solutions, adhering to BAM Baseline and Primary Processes.

Strategic bid engagement: Occasionally assume the Bid Manager role for high-impact strategic bids.

Standards and quality: Provide technical input and support for opportunities and bids, maintaining and elevating submission standards.

Cross-sector collaboration: Identify opportunities for cross-selling capabilities between Sectors and Segments.

Representation & engagement:
- Act as the Business Unit representative at Segment Preconstruction meetings.
- Engage with the Lead Estimator and Estimating team to incorporate market trends and risk management into budgets.

Procurement & supply chain: Support the Sector Pre-Construction Lead and Head of Procurement in developing supply chain and designer strategies, fostering value-driven bid and project propositions.

Industry engagement: Collaborate with relevant trade associations to assess future market influences, showcase BAM’s capabilities, and advance divisional key client approaches.
Requirements

Qualifications:
- Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Project Management, or a related construction or engineering field.

Experience:
- Significant experience in preconstruction, bid management, estimating, project delivery, or work-winning within the construction or infrastructure sector.
- Strong knowledge of construction procurement routes, commercial principles, risk management, and tendering processes.
- Experience working in the built environment or associated industries.
- Proven ability to lead and manage teams, fostering high-performance group dynamics.
