Orion Group Opportunity

Orion Group is supporting a successful National Civil Engineering & Infrastructure client seeking an experienced and strategic Pre-Construction Manager to lead and coordinate preconstruction activities across the Business Unit and wider Sector.

Working closely with senior stakeholders, you’ll drive a consistent and effective approach to opportunity management, resource planning and bid delivery, ensuring alignment with company strategic objectives and standards.

This is a key leadership role, providing direction and support to multidisciplinary preconstruction teams while helping to secure high-quality opportunities, strengthen client relationships and deliver sustainable business growth. Key Tasks

  • Working in close co-operation with the Sector Pre-Construction Lead and Sector Client Director to focus on preconstruction activities that meet the Segment and Sector Operational Plan objectives and long-term strategy
  • Overseeing the development of preconstruction solutions for emerging opportunities, supporting in building a robust pipeline by pre-positioning ahead of bids and feeding insights into the bid team
  • Reviewing all work winning decisions, including frameworks, to ensure strategic alignment and client focus, collaborating with the Segment and Sector preconstruction teams regarding the approach to the opportunity
  • Engaging with the Sector Pre-Construction Lead to resource each opportunity and bid, to enable profitable and sustainable solutions leading to successful project delivery
  • Engaging with central Preconstruction Team to source appropriate specialist bid resource
  • Supporting Bid Managers prepare and deliver winning solutions, meeting business Baseline and Primary Processes
  • From time to time, undertake the Bid Manager role on strategic bids
  • Providing technical input and support to opportunities and bids, driving the standards and quality of submissions
  • Identifying opportunities to cross-sell capabilities between Sectors and Segments
  • Acting as the Business Unit representative at Segment Preconstruction meetings
  • Engaging with Lead Estimator and Estimating team to ensure cognisance of market trends and stability are accounted for in risk management and budgets
  • Support the Sector Pre-Construction Lead and Head of Procurement with developing supply chain and designer strategy and relationships to drive value for money bid and delivery propositions
  • Engaging with relevant industry and professional bodies and trade associations to understand future market influences, promote BAM's capabilities and contribute to the development of the divisional key client approach

What You Bring to the Role

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Project Management, or a related construction or engineering field.
  • Significant experience in preconstruction, bid management, estimating, project delivery, or work-winning within the construction or infrastructure sector.
  • Strong understanding of construction procurement routes, commercial principles, risk management and tendering processes.
  • Experience working within the built environment or associated industries
  • Experience of leading and managing people and building teams
  • Well-developed analytical, oral and presentation/communication skills
  • The ability to formulate commercial plans and create engagement and commitment to deliver
  • Professional membership (e.g. CIOB, RICS, ICE, APM) is desirable
