Pre-Construction Estimator / Project Manager – Design & Build

Location – Reading, RG1 (Regional role covering London/Southeast) Hours – 37.5 hours per week Position Type – Permanent

From office moves to inspirational workplace design, we support a diverse range of clients in the commercial office sector across the UK.

We’re looking for dynamic, organised, customer-focused individuals to join our growing team. As a Pre-Construction Estimator / Project Manager, you’ll play a critical role in planning, estimating, and delivering a variety of office fit-out and refurbishment projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing timely, accurate estimates, quotations, and tender support
  • Managing projects financially from engagement to completion
  • Planning, organising, and delivering projects within budget and on programme
  • Collaborating with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams

Responsibilities

Core Duties

  • Produce comprehensive, well-thought-out estimates for proposed projects
  • Support tender and quotation processes, ensuring proposals are competitive and meet client needs
  • Work closely with design and construction teams to deliver projects efficiently
  • Manage financial controls, ensuring budgets are adhered to and variations are handled professionally
  • Liaise with clients at all levels, ensuring clarity of expectations and open communication
  • Monitor project progress, overseeing timelines, risks, and quality assurance
  • Create detailed reports (written and verbal) for senior management and stakeholders
  • Develop strong working relationships with internal teams (design, procurement, construction) and external stakeholders (contractors, consultants)

Requirements

Ideal Candidate Qualifications & Experience

  • Estimating experience within the commercial fit-out/construction sector
  • Willingness to develop and expand your skill set
  • Working knowledge of estimating systems and methodologies, capable of integrating them into the pre-construction and project delivery process
  • Ability to financially manage a project from start to finish
  • Exceptional communication skills, with experience liaising at all levels of client interaction
  • Outstanding organisational and planning skills, with the ability to multitask efficiently across multiple projects
  • Strong reporting skills (written and verbal)
  • Proficient in all Microsoft packages
  • Experience with JCT and NEC contract suites
  • Ability to work under pressure while delivering to strict budgetary and programme restraints
  • Ability to manage diverse, high-value workstreams
  • Valid UK driving license, with access to your own vehicle

Ideal Fit for the Role

The ideal candidate will ideally have: ✅ Previous experience in pre-construction estimating within a fast-paced, client-driven environment ✅ Experience managing projects from engagement to completion ✅ Understanding of the commercial office market and its specific needs
