Keyworker – Early Years Practitioner (Part-Time, September 2026)
A Level 3 qualification is necessary for legal compliance and qualifications below this level cannot be considered.
Work Pattern
- 18 hours per week
- Hours: 08:50 AM – 2:50 PM, 3 days per week (dates to be agreed with school)
- Contract duration: Fixed term until July 2027
- Start date: September 2026
About the School
Peakirk cum Glinton C.E. Primary School is a small, family-focused school that prides itself on its engrossing community of children and a dedicated, hardworking team. As the Keyworker for our early years pre-school, you will play a crucial role in supporting children’s learning through structured play and observation, while also maintaining strong two-way communication with families. Our ethos revolves around inclusion, child-led learning, and nurturing curiosity, and we actively foster partnerships between the pre-school and reception classes to ensure a seamless transition for all pupils.
Working as part of the Peterborough Diocese Trust means you will be part of a supportive and collaborative learning network, with mentorship from our Early Years Lead.
The Role
You will be responsible for:
- Supporting and engaging young children (ages 2+) through structured, child-centred play and activities
- Working within an inclusive ethos, adapting practices to meet the unique needs of each child and family
- Recording daily observations and assessments, and contributing to each child’s learning journey
- Collaborating with families, sharing progression and development while maintaining open, respectful communication
- Operating within early years best practice and legal requirements, including safeguarding, health and safety protocols, and first aid standards

Requirements
Applicants must:
- Possess a Level 3 early years qualification or equivalent (due to legal obligations)
- Hold expertise in early years care and education with experience supporting children as young as 2 years old
- Embrace an inclusive, child-centred approach to learning and development
- Complete mandatory training (first aid, health & safety, safeguarding) if unqualified
- Align with the school’s ethos of care and equality for all children
- Bring strong motivation, initiative, and enthusiasm for continuous professional development
Key Attributes
- Passionate and hands-on practitioner with a deep understanding of early years pedagogy
- Ability to lead change and embrace new methods in children’s learning and safeguarding
- Highly self-assured and empathetic, able to build trusting relationships with children and families
- Comfortable in a supportive, team-oriented environment where collaboration between pre-school, reception, and wider school staff is key
