Senior Pre-Construction Manager
Utility-Scale Renewable Energy | Solar PV & BESS | United Kingdom
Our client, following successful renewable energy project development in the UK, is now expanding into delivery and long-term asset ownership. They seek an experienced Senior Pre-Construction Manager to lead the critical transition phase from Ready-to-Build to Notice to Proceed, ensuring commercial, technical, and operational readiness for successful project delivery.
This newly created role offers the opportunity to shape major renewable energy project delivery while establishing best practices across a growing portfolio.
The Opportunity
You will:
- Lead operational and technical pre-construction activities on large-scale utility renewable energy projects
- Guide projects from Ready-to-Build through Financial Close and into construction readiness
- Collaborate with senior commercial and project leadership to drive successful project commercialisation
- Coordinate complex interfaces across engineering, development, grid, land, procurement, commercial, and delivery functions
- Lead contractor engagement, tender evaluation, procurement strategy, and construction readiness
- Manage relationships with lenders’ technical advisers, insurers, consultants, and external stakeholders throughout transaction phases
- Establish robust project governance, reporting and risk management processes
- Develop scalable pre-construction systems, standards, and best practices for future project delivery
- Contribute to the growth of one of the UK’s most ambitious renewable energy businesses

Key Responsibilities
- Lead pre-construction delivery from Ready-to-Build to Notice to Proceed
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams for commercial, technical, and operational readiness
- Review contractor proposals, programmes, and delivery strategies, identifying and mitigating interface risks
- Support contractor selection, procurement activities, and contract negotiations
- Develop project delivery plans, governance frameworks, and reporting processes
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and risk throughout commercialisation
- Interface with lenders, technical advisers, insurers, and external consultants during project financing
- Drive collaboration across development, engineering, procurement, commercial, grid, and construction teams
- Contribute to process improvement, repeatable methodologies, standards, and best practices

About You
Successful candidates will ideally have:
- 7+ years’ experience delivering large-scale renewable energy or infrastructure projects
- Experience managing projects through pre-construction, commercialisation, or delivery phases
- Strong expertise in utility-scale Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage (BESS), transmission, or broader energy infrastructure projects
- Experience in EPC or multi-package contracting environments
- Knowledge of project finance, lender due diligence, and technical adviser interfaces is highly advantageous
- Excellent programme management, stakeholder engagement, and commercial awareness
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate multiple workstreams simultaneously
