Overview of the Role
TfL’s Victoria Coach Station, a historic and bustling transport hub since 1932, welcomes millions of passengers annually. As a Premises Maintenance Officer – Electrical, you’ll lead proactive electrical maintenance at Victoria and other site(s) across TfL’s asset portfolio, delivering safety, reliability, and efficiency in a dynamic operational environment.
In this role, you’ll:
- Lead electrical maintenance and compliance for TfL premises, acting as the expert resource for day-to-day tasks
- Ensure safety, statutory compliance, and asset performance through reactive and planned maintenance
- Collaborate with contractors and in-house teams to deliver seamless operational support during peak schedules
- Drive operational improvements that strengthen customer-focused asset performance
- Act as the main contact for electrical incident response, risk mitigation, and emergency management
Aligning with our broader business goals, you’ll defend high standards for customer and asset protection, harnessing technical skills while nurturing strong relationships across disciplines—both internally and with TNT operator partners.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Operational & Maintenance Duties
- Deliver day-to-day electrical maintenance—reactive and preventative—across depot and coach station premises, ensuring cost-effective, reliable, and safe operations
- Prioritize, assign and oversee in-house/hybrid teams and external contractors; maintain robust customer feedback and quality reviews
- Oversee minor works events (e.g. lighting repairs, CCTV fault findings, equipment replacement) to minimize customer disruption
Compliance & Risk Management
- Champion safety and regulatory adherence, enforcing standards across skills development, PAT testing, and coaching peers in health & safety practices
- Monitor supply chain performance aligned with Risk Assessments/Method Statements (RAMS) for RAM compliance thresholds
- Report maintenance non-compliance and unresolved issues via escalation matrix pathways

Relationship Management
- Develop end-to-end diplomatic ties with bus/coach operators (e.g. National Express, Flixbus) and TfL departments to ensure smooth collaborative deliveries
- Host site inspections as required to validate defect resolution quality and validate long-term maintenance plans
Incident & Emergency Response
- Answer on-call duties to manage urgent yet controlled faults (e.g. power outages, minimal electrical risks) during out-of-hours closures
Continuous Improvement
- Identify cost, process, and performance improvement opportunities; provide operational insights to project teams
- Share expertise and drive consistency through skill-sharing echoes/learn-toolak sessions with colleagues
Skills & Experience Requirements
Essential Skills

Technical Proficiency:
- Use of testing equipment, hand/power tools—demonstrable proficiency required
- Proven aptitude in fault diagnosis, repair, and testing (e.g. BS7671 compliance, alarm/entry systems, lighting solutions)
- Expertise in planned maintenance and preventative strategies on electrical plant systems, including building services

Operational Intelligence:
- Experience in hazard identification and implementation guidance for external contractors
- Understood risk register communication aligning to worksite safety protocols

Communication & Teamwork:
- Influencing talent and authority across multi-disciplinary trades
- Delicate balancing of techniques, patience & productivity under pressure
Technical & Educational Requirements
Certifications (All Must Be Held)
- Apprenticeship: Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electro-Technical Installation Services (Electrical Maintenance [2357-23])
- Regulations: Level 3 Award in Electrical Wiring (Wiring Regulations 2018, BS7671)
- Specialised Training:
- Periodic Inspection (2391-52) or Equipment Inspection (2377-12)
- Minimum Level 3 Award in Electrical Test & Inspection (with PAT included)
- JIB Graded / Registered Membership in electrical installation/maintenance

- Existing TfL Knowledge (Desirable):
- Exposure to Asset Systems (Concept; Maximo; SAMIS)
- Understanding of broader facilities management system softwares
Field-Lived Experience Mandatories
Technical Roles (Non-Negotiable)
- Demonstrated ability as a Building Services Technician with planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and fault-finding
- Grounded experience in hands-on premises-specific maintenance (e.g. fault-finding wiring circuits, compiler of quotes for effective requests for quotes/f animais)
Front-Line / Contractor Work (Preferred)
- Delivering actionable efficiency outcomes within complex high-volume environments, extensive PDA usage for upkeeping of records
