What to Expect in the Role:

In this hands-on role, you’ll play a key part in the efficient and effective operation of Elizabeth House, and other Council properties as needed. From setting up the Council Chamber for meetings, to receiving deliveries, to organising external suppliers and contractors, your work will directly support the buildings that staff and the public rely on.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities (Please see Job Description and Person Specification for more details):

To ensure the effective and efficient operation of Elizabeth House by organising and providing appropriate levels of maintenance, security services and a customer focused service to staff and Councillors’ including the opening and closing of Elizabeth House. To assist the Senior Premises Officer and other staff with repair and maintenance issues, including identification of need, specification of requirements, purchasing of works, supervision of works and completion of works by clearing invoices. To assist with Fire and Emergency procedures including opening and operation of premises out of normal hours during emergency operations, whenever necessary. To provide a security presence including the operation of existing security procedures and the general management of members of the public, in partnership with member of staff, to protect the safety and welfare of all. To carry out various service and maintenance inspections and routine daily repair and maintenance tasks; monitor energy and water consumption readings; control building services. To attend other Council buildings and meeting locations to check operational facilities and support staff and carry out minor works or inspections as required.

What You’ll Need (Please see Job Description and Person Specification for more details):

Able to complete manual handling of equipment and materials and able to support and deliver to services based around Elizabeth House, and beyond. Security Industry Authority (SIA) license or willingness to obtain one. Strong communication skills, with fluent spoken English essential for effective performance in this public‑facing role. Solid hands‑on experience, having performed comparable work for at least five years. Work confidently and independently, using initiative, staying self‑motivated, and being comfortable with basic IT tasks in MS Word and Excel. Stay flexible and reliable, holding a full clean driving licence and being able to respond to emergency callouts on a 24‑hour basis when required.

This post is offered as a secondment opportunity for internal staff, allowing employees to return to their original post at the end of the secondment period.
