Technical Consultant in Presales – HP UK

About the Role

The Technical Consultant is a trusted advisor who engages with customers to understand their business needs, designs tailored IT solutions, and aligns propositions with HP’s products and services.

This role leverages deep technical expertise to remove obstacles in the sales cycle, articulate the value of HP products and services, and support both the sales team and customers from engagement through adoption.

The Technical Consultant is responsible for:

  • Technical solution development
  • Pre-sales support
  • Ensuring seamless adoption and integration of HP solutions

Key Responsibilities

Customer Engagement & Solution Design

  • Engage with customers to uncover business requirements and design tailored IT solutions that balance technical capabilities with business objectives.
  • Lead product demonstrations and client workshops, answering technical questions and strengthening client confidence in HP solutions.

Technical Validation & Risk Mitigation

  • Conduct technical evaluations, assess solution feasibility, identify risks, and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Develop technical documentation, specifications, and detailed financial models for proposals.

Education & Proof-of-Concept (PoC) Support

  • Educate clients on technical aspects of solutions and infrastructure integration.
  • Conduct proof-of-concepts (PoCs) and pilot projects to demonstrate real-world value of HP solutions.

Relationship Management

  • Build long-term relationships with technical decision-makers, addressing queries and concerns throughout the sales cycle.
  • Provide sales team training on technical product knowledge, presentations, and solution delivery.

Competitive & Sales Collaboration

  • Perform competitive analysis and advise on effective product positioning.
  • Collaborate with sales teams to uncover new opportunities and engage with stakeholders.

Deliverables & Stakeholder Alignment

  • Lead meetings and presentations to gather insights into client infrastructure, challenges, and goals.
  • Qualify opportunities and develop customized technical solutions.
  • Support sales presentations and demos, ensuring clarity and impact.

Industry & Technical Expertise

  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitor offerings.
  • Use AI and digital tools to enhance customer engagement, productivity, and decision-making.

Experience & Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of experience in technical consulting, pre-sales, or solution development.
  • Proven ability in IT infrastructure, networking, cloud computing, and cybersecurity.

Preferred Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree (not mandatory but desirable).
  • Strong solution-selling and technical communication skills—able to simplify complex concepts.
  • Expertise in HP IT strategy, managed services, digital solutions, and professional services.

Critical Competencies

  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills for technical opportunity qualification.
  • Ability to build rapport with both internal teams and external clients.
  • Proficiency in CRM systems and sales analytics tools.
  • Market awareness with ability to translate insights into business opportunities.
