Preservation Surveyor

Peter Cox Property – Building Condition Surveyor – Damp & Decay Specialist Join Our Team and Lead with Expertise!

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Condition Surveyor – Damp & Decay Specialist (or someone motivated to become one) to join our team at our Lincoln branch. Experience is preferred but not essential for the right candidate.

You will be covering the East Coast of the Midlands, including areas such as Thetford, Bury St Edmunds, Norwich, and the surrounding areas.

Building Condition Surveyor – Damp & Decay Specialist: Role Overview

This field-based role requires you to conduct detailed surveys of properties to diagnose damp, decay, and structural issues. Your work will include:

  • Property Surveys: Inspect buildings for defects, defects like damp, rot, fungal growth, and construction faults.
  • Diagnosing Pathology: Identify the causes of decay based on construction knowledge and technical expertise.
  • Providing Solutions: Advise clients on preservation repair, moisture control, and remedial techniques.
  • Customer Liaison: Build trusted relationships and provide clear, jargon-free recommendations to property owners.
  • Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
    • Travel throughout East Coast Midlands (Thetford, Bury St. Edmunds, Norwich, surrounding areas).
    • Work independently most of the time – be self-motivated)
    • Answer customer queries, present findings, and implement repeat visits as required.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Surveys & Diagnostics

    • Inspect buildings for damp, decay, woodworm, fungal growth, or structural issues.
    • Document findings using photographic evidence and written reports.
    • Recommend suitable scientific damp-proofing and repair solutions.
  • Client Consultations & Communication

    • Present findings to clients in understandable terms, identifying risks and effective remedies.
    • Offer the and maintenance strategy for long-term property preservation.
    • Respond to feedback and adapt solutions as needed.
  • Sales-Focused Strategy

    • Deliver exceptional customer point of service excellence and align analysis with commercial preservation products.
    • Grow and nurture client relationships, ensuring satisfaction and returning business.
  • Workplace & Ethical Standards

    • Maintain HS&E best practices when inspecting properties.
    • Act with integrity, empathy, and professionalism at all times.

Requirements & Qualification Preferences

We are actively looking for candidates who demonstrate the following:

  • Education/Qualifications:
    • CSSW (Certified Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing) or CSTDB (Certified Surveyor in Timber and Dampness) – preferred, but not mandatory.
    • Alternatively, full-time surveying or property development qualifications in construction pathology, structural diagnostics, or damp are taken into consideration.
  • Industry Experience:
    • Proven track record in damp surveys, property preservation, or building pathology sales.
  • Personal Driving Licence:
    • Valid full UK licence held for over 2 years, with no more than 6 penalty points.
  • Skills & Mindset:
    • Strong problem-solving ability when diagnosing complex damp/decay causes.
    • Excellent communication skills – robustness in writing reports and sensitivity with customers.
    • High customer service ethos through empathy, respect, and adaptability.
    • Self-driven and target-focused, with a commitment to ethical conduct.
  • Ida Dive Check (DBS Requirements):
    • Occasionally, there may be a need for a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.

About the Working Environment

This role is 100% field-based in the beginning, with significant travel across the Eastern Midlands. You’ll frequently work alone but will have the support of regional managers. Employees will need to be comfortable adapting to varied working conditions and managing time efficiently.
