Pricing Actuarial Analyst

Reports to: Head of Data & Analytics
Working Arrangements: Monday to Friday, 09:30 – 17:30, 3 days in the office
Location: London

Company Background:

The Thomas Miller Group is an independent and international provider of insurance, professional and investment services. One of its clients is the UK P&I Club, one of the leading insurers of ship owners’ liabilities in the World. The Club is on an exciting journey to transform its use of technology and data and is seeking an analyst to join them on that path.

Overall Objective of Role:

This role’s primary focus is on supporting the development and integration of pricing and risk selection tools into the underwriting department and broader Club environment. The successful candidate will need to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The role has a reliance on programming skills, so prior experience in R or SQL would be beneficial.

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of pricing models
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of portfolio management and pricing tools
  • Supporting underwriters in the pricing of large or complex risks
  • Perform profitability and performance monitoring
  • Support the analysis and development of new claims monitoring and trend analysis
  • Support the analysis and exploration of new data sources

Person Specification:

  • Able to analyse situations, identify key issues, evaluate options, and deliver practical, well-reasoned solutions.
  • Preferably with good programming skills or a keen interest in developing such skills. SQL or R experience is advantageous.
  • Able to work independently while seeking guidance appropriately, delivering high-quality work, setting and meeting challenging goals, and continuously improving performance.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to ongoing learning, both formally and informally, internal and external to the business.
  • Builds effective working relationships across all levels of the organisation.
  • Able to manage multiple projects, prioritising time and resources effectively.
  • Comfortable participating in peer review, including constructively challenging and being challenged.
  • Able to present findings clearly, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to consider the wider business context and how the work and team fits into this, while having a keen eye for detail.
