Job Summary: Pricing Actuary
The Pricing Actuary will be responsible for actuarial pricing, primarily for Chaucer’s Political Violence, Political Risk and Credit portfolios, with a focus on account pricing, benchmark rate reviews, and portfolio analysis.
Key Aspects of the Role:
- Strongly client-facing, involving support for broker negotiations, pricing advice for insureds, and developing new pricing capabilities.
- Contributions to other insurance classes as required across divisions, including reinsurance and innovation.
- Requires self-assessed technical pricing expertise, combined with excellent communication and commercial awareness to support clients and brokers.
- Located in London, working within the actuarial pricing team and underwriting guidance from the Insurance Pricing Manager.
Main Duties
- Develop an in-depth understanding of Political Violence, Political Risk, and Credit insurance classes, underwriting strategies, and market trends.
- Liaise with underwriters for account pricing during broker negotiations.
- Implement ongoing portfolio monitoring for individual accounts and the full portfolio.
- Propose new reporting metrics and improve measurement indicators (MI).
- Conduct model recalibration reviews and regulatory reporting.
- Support data collection and maintenance for pricing needs.
- Stay current with industry developments while developing new pricing and visualisation techniques to enhance best practices.
- Collaborate with the wider actuarial team on pricing methodologies, presentations, and knowledge sharing.
- Assist with other team-wide pricing tasks as required.

Experience & Skills
Relevant Experience
Essential:
- Experience in general insurance pricing.
Desirable:
- Industry-specific experience in Political Violence, Political Risk, and Credit insurance.
- Hands-on experience in model development.
Technical Skills
Essential:
- Strong IT and numerical proficiency, including advanced knowledge of Excel and VBA.
Desirable:
- Technical skills in R, Python, or SQL.
- Experience in building dashboards using Power BI.
Education & Qualifications
Essential:
- 2:1 or 1st-class degree in mathematics (or an associated field, such as Physics, Engineering, or Statistics).
- At least three A-levels, including Mathematics.
Desirable:
- FIA qualification (strong candidates in progress towards FIA assessment will be considered). Note: Candidates not yet qualified would hold a temporary title of "Senior Pricing Analyst" until qualified.
