Role Purpose
The Actuarial Pricing Analyst provides analytical support to the pricing actuaries across all Starr lines of business. Working as part of a pooled resource model, the analyst collaborates closely with underwriters, actuaries and the wider pricing function to deliver high-quality pricing analysis, model support and management information, helping to drive pricing quality and consistency across the portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
Actuarial Pricing Support
- Support Divisional Actuaries with case pricing, portfolio pricing and ad hoc analytical work across assigned lines of business
- Assist with calibration exercises to reduce model adjustments, bias and noise in deployed pricing models
- Review and validate underwriting adjustments to model outputs, escalating material concerns to the Divisional Actuary
- Maintain and update pricing model parameters (Tier 3 and below), ensuring changes are accurately applied and documented
- Perform low-level code updates to deployed pricing models as directed, with appropriate testing and sign-off
- Support back-testing and model review processes, contributing to sign-off documentation as required
Data & Management Information
- Maintain data sources consumed by the pricing function, ensuring integrity and validating derived insights
- Support the design and delivery of class-specific management information, including pricing adequacy, rate change and return on capital metrics
- Identify and escalate data quality issues to the Divisional Actuary and Technical Pricing team

Collaboration & Governance
- Work closely with underwriters, reserving, capital modelling and exposure management teams to facilitate sharing of best practice
- Act as a point of contact for underwriters using pricing tools, supporting their day-to-day use and escalating platform issues to the Technical Pricing team
- Develop a working knowledge of the hx Renew pricing platform to understand how models are built, maintained and deployed, enabling effective collaboration with the Technical Pricing team
- Adhere to all pricing governance policies and model release standards in force
- Support the delivery of pricing training to underwriting teams as directed by the Divisional Actuary
Continuous Improvement
- Research and contribute to improvements in data quality, modelling techniques and pricing efficiency
- Support the identification and implementation of automation and AI opportunities within pricing workflows

Essential
Qualifications, skills and experience
- Actuarial experience gained in any background — Reserving, Capital or General Insurance Pricing
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with high attention to detail
- Experience working with large datasets and confident use of Excel for data analysis
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, able to build effective working relationships with underwriters and actuarial colleagues
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver to deadlines in a fast-moving environment

Preferred
- Familiarity with London Market or specialty insurance and actuarial pricing concepts, such as rating structures, calibration, parameterisation and UAT
- Experience with at least one coding language such as Python or R
- Exposure to model governance and audit readiness in a regulated environment
- Working familiarity with hx Renew or similar pricing platforms
Performance Measures
- Quality, accuracy and timeliness of analytical and pricing support delivered to Divisional Actuaries
- Accuracy of model parameter updates and low-level code changes, with appropriate testing and documentation
- Quality and timeliness of MI produced for the function and for class-level reporting
- Effectiveness of collaboration with underwriters and wider actuarial colleagues
- Adherence to pricing policies, governance standards and model release processes
