About The Role: Primary Care Clinical Lead at HMP Altcourse

We have an exciting opportunity for a Primary Care Clinical Lead to join our Primary Care team at HMP Altcourse, a category B prison located in Fazakerley, Liverpool. HMP Altcourse is the busiest remand prison in the country, offering a dynamic and varied role where no two days are ever the same.

As a Primary Care Clinical Lead, you will have experience in managing a large team and will bring a background in Primary Care Nursing. The balance between managerial and clinical responsibilities is flexible and depends on the needs of the service, combining both clinical and management duties.

Hours & Salary

  • Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours per week, core hours policy
  • Full-time position with an annual salary between £51,643 – £58,012 (depending on experience)

The Role: What You’ll Be Doing

As a Primary Care Clinical Lead, your responsibilities will vary, but will include:

  • Providing clinical leadership and management to registered nurses and care teams.
  • Deputising for the Deputy/Head of Healthcare when required.
  • Collaborating closely with partners to ensure a high-quality clinical service for patients.
  • Maintaining consistent, autonomous clinical practice.
  • Modelling a culture of compassion, care, courage, commitment, communication and competence.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Coaching and line managing clinician staff.
  • Supporting and contributing to audits, governance, and local/regional investigations.
  • Developing and reviewing clinical/non-clinical Local Operating Protocols.
  • Chairing and facilitating healthcare meetings with the team and external partners.
  • Providing clinical supervision (training available).
  • Undertaking investigations locally and contributing to the wider region.

Essential Requirements

  • Registered Nurse – Adult with a current professional qualification (NMC).
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development.
  • Understanding of complexities in multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working.
  • A non-judgmental, compassionate approach.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience in line management or student nurse mentorship.

Preferred but not essential: Experience in hospital, community, or prison environments.
