About the Role
We are seeking two qualified, experienced nurses to work in a negative, nurse-led environment within HMP Bedford, part of an NHS trust committed to improving outcomes for service users and staff.
This is a one-night substantive post and a second eight-month fixed-term contract covering maternity leave.
As a successful applicant, you will:
- Work closely with patients, the multidisciplinary healthcare team, and the prison service
- Deliver comprehensive, trauma-informed care under an integrated healthcare model
- Cover emergencies, conduct screening and triage, and collaborate with other agencies
Key Responsibilities
- Respond effectively to medical emergencies and urgent care needs
- Screen, assess, and refer patients as required within the prison setting
- Adhere to prison healthcare protocols and security protocols
- Support service users’ physical and mental health with a focus on rehabilitation
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and external agencies

Experience & Qualifications
- Current NMC registration (must be in good standing)
- Post-registration experience (3+ years desirable but not mandatory)
- Desirable: previous experience in prison healthcare, intensive care, or emergency nursing
- Subject to Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and security clearance (UK residency requirement: 3+ years)
