We have an exciting opportunity for a Primary Care Nurse to join our Primary Care team at HMP Kirkham, a Category D Prison located in Kirkham, Preston.
The prison has its own Healthcare department, where you will be based. The primary care team consists of 10 colleagues.
HMP Kirkham holds a capacity of 700 males and offers:
- Onsite parking
- Staff gym access
- Onsite farm shop and café
- Training and development opportunities
Hours:
- Monday – Thursday: 8:00 am – 7:00 pm
- Friday: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
- Weekend: 8:00 am – 12:00 pm (1 weekend in 4)
- Rotas are managed two months in advance.
Salary: This position is full-time, offering an annual salary ranging between £34,428 – £41,659, depending on experience.

- Working within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a nurse-led service and prevent unnecessary hospital admissions.
- Conducting medication rounds, dispensing controlled medication, responding to emergencies, and assessing patients.
- Undertaking reception screenings.
- Delivering nurse-led clinics in collaboration with your patient group, supported by our multi-disciplinary team.
- Providing high-quality, evidence-based care, actively seeking and acting on patient feedback to ensure personalised treatment.
- Ensuring non-judgmental, compassionate care that makes a tangible difference within strict ethical boundaries.
- Inspiring excellence by establishing strong partnerships with stakeholders.
- Promoting best practice, clinical supervision, and continuous quality improvement, fostering a culture of shared learning.

Qualifications & Skills Required:
- Registered Adult Nurse (eligible for NMC registration)
- Evidence of Continued Professional Development (CPD)
- Understanding of complexities in multi-disciplinary and multi-agency collaboration
- A non-judgmental and empathetic approach
- Exceptional communication skills
Ideal Experience (but not essential):
- Previous experience in a hospital, community, or prison healthcare setting
