Primary English Tutor (Summer Role – August)
Location
Near Charlbury, Oxfordshire (approx. 1 hour direct from London Paddington or 20 minutes from Oxford)
Schedule
Monday–Thursday throughout August
Hours
Mornings (approximately 2 hours per session)
Compensation
£60 per hour + travel expenses (London-based tutors)
About the Opportunity
City Bright is seeking an exceptional Primary English Tutor to support a bright, imaginative 9-year-old student through an intensive summer programme.
This is a rewarding one-to-one role for a tutor who enjoys making learning engaging, creative, and personalised. You'll have the opportunity to design lessons around the student's interests while helping to build confidence and accelerate progress in reading and writing.

About the Student
The student has recently completed Year 4 and will be entering Year 5 in the Portuguese education system (currently working at approximately UK Year 4 level).
He is naturally curious, highly creative, and particularly enjoys:
- Minecraft
- Building and design
- Football
- Creative projects
- Outdoor learning
The family is looking for an inspiring tutor who can make literacy enjoyable while providing structured academic support.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct an initial literacy assessment to establish current reading and writing levels.
- Plan and deliver engaging one-to-one English lessons.
- Develop reading comprehension, spelling, grammar, vocabulary, and creative writing skills.
- Create lessons that incorporate the student's interests to maximise engagement.
- Track progress and adapt teaching accordingly.
- Build confidence through positive, supportive teaching.

Ideal Candidate
- Experience tutoring or teaching primary-aged children.
- Strong understanding of the UK primary English curriculum.
- Creative, engaging teaching style beyond traditional worksheets.
- Patient, enthusiastic, and able to build excellent rapport with young learners.
- Reliable and able to travel to Charlbury four mornings per week throughout August.
