Primary English Curriculum Writer

Primary English Curriculum Writer – 1-Year Maternity Cover Position

About the Role

United Learning is refining its curriculum to enhance teaching quality across its schools in England. The United Curriculum is optional and designed to improve lesson consistency, reduce teacher workload, and allow more time for personalised learning.

As a Primary English Curriculum Writer, you will contribute to our central team for a 1-year maternity cover. Key tasks include:

  • Continued development of the primary writing curriculum
  • Launching resources for our brand-new reading curriculum
  • Supporting the curriculum reprovision in response to the National Curriculum 2014 review

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Primary Education and wider curriculum teams to refine sequences and schemes of work across primary and secondary levels.
  • Design lesson resources, including:
    • Lesson slides
    • Printable lesson materials
    • Teacher support guides -플 explanation videos for pupils.
  • Ensure resources align with pedagogical research (e.g., Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction) and meet half-termly deadlines.
  • Work with art teams and legal teams to ensure all resources comply with licensing and IP requirements.
  • Develop additional resources, such as:
    • Knowledge organisers
    • Teacher CPD materials
  • Establish seamless links between English and related subjects (e.g., RE, history).
  • Review teacher feedback and refine resources in collaboration with:
    • Primary Curriculum lead
    • Advisers
    • Group Primary Curriculum Lead
  • Adhere to section leadership guidance for ongoing curriculum development.

Contract & Working Arrangements

  • Posting: Fully remote (with occasional occasional termly travel). Support & expenses covered for visits to UK offices.
  • Hours: 0.8 FTE (30 hours/week).
  • Type: 1-year fixed term (maternity cover). Potential for longer-term opportunities in response to evolving primary education needs.
  • Ideal for: Experienced primary teachers passionate about reading and writing pedagogy. Suitable for those wishing to expand or specialise in curriculum leadership.
