Primary Support Assistant X2 – Newcastle Upon Tyne
We are seeking two dedicated and enthusiastic Support Assistants to join a welcoming and supportive first school in Newcastle upon Tyne from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for passionate practitioners who are committed to helping children achieve their full potential within a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
The school is a well-established and highly regarded first school with a strong reputation for providing a caring, child-centred education. The school places a strong emphasis on inclusion, positive relationships, and working closely with families to ensure all pupils are supported both academically and personally.
The School Is Recruiting For Two Support Assistants
- One Support Assistant to work within Key Stage 1.
- One Support Assistant to work within Key Stage 2.
Both positions will commence in September 2026 and continue until July 2027, with the potential to continue beyond this date for the right candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- Support teaching and learning by working with individual pupils and small groups.
- Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons.
- Provide targeted support to pupils who require additional help with their learning.
- Promote positive behaviour and encourage pupils to develop confidence and independence.
- Help create a safe, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment where all children can thrive.
- Support pupils' academic, social, and emotional development.
- Adapt learning resources and activities to meet the needs of individual pupils.
- Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff where appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other professionals to support positive pupil outcomes.
- Ensure safeguarding procedures and school policies are followed at all times.

Essential Criteria
- A minimum Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification – essential.
- Previous experience supporting children within a primary school or educational setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A patient, caring, and proactive approach to supporting young learners.
- The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, and families.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Preferred Criteria
- Experience supporting pupils within Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2.
- Experience delivering interventions or supporting small group learning.
- Experience supporting pupils with SEND or additional learning needs.
- Knowledge of the primary curriculum and effective classroom support strategies.
- A willingness to contribute positively to the wider life of the school.
These roles would suit enthusiastic Support Assistants who are passionate about helping children succeed and enjoy being part of a collaborative school community. Whether supporting pupils in Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2, the successful candidates will play an important role in helping children reach their full potential while becoming valued members of a dedicated staff team. There is also the potential for both positions to continue beyond July 2027 for the right candidates.
