Principal AI Engineer - Contract
Principal AI Engineer (6-12 months Contract)
We are looking for a Principal AI Engineer on a fixed-term contract (6–12 months) to lead the design and delivery of production-grade AI capabilities built on top of our data platform. This is a senior, hands-on individual-contributor role sitting within a Data Platform Engineering team .You will own the Applied AI & Intelligence Layer — embedding LLMs, RAG pipelines and ML models into real data workflows, not just prototypes. The ideal candidate thrives at the intersection of data platform engineering and applied AI, and is comfortable taking end-to-end ownership from architecture through to deployment and observability

What you'll doDesign, build and deploy LLM integrations, RAG pipelines, embedding workflows and intelligent agents operating on top of our data platfor m.Build and maintain AI infrastructure: feature stores, vector databases and model input/output pipeline s.Partner with data engineers, analysts and product teams to identify where AI can automate or accelerate analytical decision-makin g.Develop AI-assisted data quality, anomaly detection and observability capabilitie s.Establish best practices for responsible AI development — prompt engineering standards, model evaluation frameworks and versioning protocol s.Contribute to self-service AI-powered data products such as natural language interfaces and intelligent semantic searc h.Mentor engineers in building AI literacy and AI-first approaches to data platform wor k.Essenti al5+ years in data engineering, ML engineering or a related field with a proven track record shipping AI/ML solutions to productio n.Strong proficiency in Python and SQ L.Hands-on experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG architectures and AI orchestration frameworks (e.g. LangChain or equivalent ).Familiarity with vector databases and embedding pipeline s.Proficiency with Databricks and AWS including ML-oriented services (SageMaker, MLflow, Databricks Model Serving ).Advantageo usFintech or capital markets experience; awareness of compliance constraints for AI (model explainability, auditability ).Experience with agentic AI systems and multi-step reasoning workflow s.Familiarity with AI evaluation frameworks and dataset curation for fine-tuning or RLH F.Prior experience mentoring engineers or contributing to AI/ML best-practice developmen
