Allegro Team Purpose
The Allegro team is united by a clear purpose—advancing technologies that make the world safer, more efficient, and more sustainable. With over 30 years of experience in semiconductor innovation, we bring that purpose to life across every part of the business—from breakthrough product development and customer success to how we show up for each other and the communities we serve.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a visionary and highly accomplished Principal Analog Design Engineer to join our Edinburgh Design Center. In this high-impact role, you will serve as a key technical authority within the Power IC Business Unit. Operating with a very high degree of autonomy, you will architect, design, and verify cutting-edge analog and mixed-signal power management ICs and motor drivers. You will lead technical innovation, define future product roadmaps, and mentor engineering teams to drive technical excellence across the organization.
What You Will Do
- Architect & Drive the Future: Lead the definition and transistor-level design of next-generation, highly complex analog power management systems and motor drivers (e.g., advanced op-amps, precision comparators, high-voltage gate drivers, charge pumps, and regulators).
- Invent New Topologies: Innovate and develop industry-first circuit topologies to achieve unprecedented levels of silicon performance, efficiency, and robustness.
- Strategic Specification Negotiation: Partner with Systems Engineering, Marketing, and key customers to translate complex system-level requirements into block-level specifications, effectively balancing performance, cost, and development schedules.
- Process & Methodology Enhancement: Enhance existing analog design processes and explore the integration of emerging methodologies, including generative AI workflows, to improve design quality and team efficiency.
- Full-Chip Verification Ownership: Lead top-level simulation planning, define worst-case corner matrices, and utilize advanced Monte Carlo and parasitic extraction routines to ensure first-time-silicon success.
- Cross-Functional Technical Authority: Act as the primary technical interface for layout, ESD, EMC, digital design, and test teams, ensuring smooth integration and alignment across the entire product development lifecycle.
- IP Creation & Patent Leadership: Consistently identify patentable innovations within your designs and champion the creation and filing of new intellectual property (IP) to defend Allegro’s market leadership.
- Technical Mentorship & Influence: Mentor and guide Principal, Senior, and Junior design engineers, fostering technical autonomy and helping them transition into effective technical leads.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What You Will Bring
- Education: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a highly related technical field.
- Experience: 12+ years (with a Bachelor’s) or 10+ years (with a Master’s/PhD) of extensive experience in analog/mixed-signal IC design, with a strong, proven track record in power management or motor driver architectures.
- Proven Track Record: Delivering multiple complex IC projects successfully from initial concept to high-volume production (first-time-right silicon).
- Expert-Level Knowledge: BCD (Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS) and CMOS technologies, with deep understanding of physical design, high-voltage layouts, and isolation techniques (dielectric/junction).
- Comprehensive Mastery: Gate drive circuit design for both Silicon and wide-bandgap (GaN/SiC) MOSFETs.
- Expertise: Functional safety standards for automotive semiconductor design (ISO 26262, ASIL compliance).
- EDA Tool Mastery: Power user of industry-standard EDA design suites (Cadence Virtuoso and Siemens SDE), advanced simulation tools (Spectre, AFS), and physical verification tools (Calibre DRC/LVS).
- Strategic Communication & Influence: Outstanding analytical, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with a proven ability to influence global cross-functional stakeholders and explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
