About the Role

“Are you ready to join a team of flood risk specialists and shape the future of the Water Industry?”

We’re looking for a Principal or Associate to join our growing Water team. You’ll play a senior technical role, leading teams to deliver real-time flood forecasting projects, while helping to expand our services with the Environment Agency and beyond.

Although your primary focus will be on flood forecasting, you’ll also have opportunities to work on wider hydrology and non-real-time modelling projects.

Responsibilities

Core Duties

  • Produce and review Flood Forecasting Inception Stage Reports, including assessing the quality of existing models and hydrometric data.
  • Develop, calibrate, and check flood forecasting models (e.g., PDM, Flood Modeller).
  • Carry out non-real-time modelling and hydrological analysis using tools such as:
    • Flood Modeller
    • ICM
    • HEC-RAS
    • MIKE 11
    • Environment Agency’s Flood Estimation Handbook (FEH) hydrological methods
  • Produce and review high-quality technical reports, documenting model build and associated uncertainties.
  • Lead and contribute to tentative efforts for key clients.
  • Mentor and support team members in their professional development.
  • Build strong relationships with clients and colleagues across disciplines.
  • Stay up to date with legislation and guidelines relevant to our services.
  • Use AECOM’s project management systems to deliver high-quality outputs on time and within budget.
  • Become part of our dynamic Water business, which boasts around 700 experts across the UK & Ireland. Collaborate with top-tier engineers and consultants to deliver a variety of captivating projects, from small initiatives to large-scale ventures, all the way from concept to completion.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
