Principal / Associate Transport Planner (Development Planning)

Location: Newcastle / Gateshead

Salary: £53,000 - £67,000 (DOE)

Type: Full-Time | Permanent

Principal / Associate Transport Planner

A growing and highly respected transport planning and infrastructure consultancy is looking to appoint a Principal or Associate Transport Planner to join its North East team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced development planning professional who is looking to take the next step in their career, lead projects, manage client relationships and play an important role in the continued growth of an established consultancy.

The business provides transport planning, highways design, drainage and infrastructure advice across a broad range of sectors, working with both public and private sector clients on residential, commercial, employment, education, healthcare, logistics, regeneration and mixed-use developments throughout the UK.

The Role

You will lead the delivery of development planning projects from initial feasibility through to planning approval, providing strategic transport advice and technical expertise across a diverse portfolio of schemes.

The role will involve managing and reviewing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, access appraisals and junction capacity assessments, whilst maintaining strong relationships with clients, local authorities and wider project teams.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
