About the Role

As our demand for exceptional expertise grows, we’re seeking an experienced Associate Wastewater Process Engineer to join our Water and Wastewater Engineering teams across key locations:

Locations:

  • Birmingham
  • Bristol
  • Manchester
  • Liverpool
  • London
  • Newcastle
  • Glasgow

As a key member of multidisciplinary project design teams, you will lead the process engineering design for wastewater and water reuse projects—both in the UK and internationally. Your responsibilities will span from feasibility studies, optioneering, and technical reports to detailed designs, procurement, and construction review, ensuring optimal solutions across diverse, high-profile projects.

Working collaboratively with senior stakeholders, clients, and vendors will allow you to deliver technically sound designs under tight deadlines while supporting our team’s growth.


Key Responsibilities

Your role requires a mix of technical expertise, project leadership, and collaboration. You’ll:

  • Design process engineering deliverables such as:
    • Optioneering studies
    • Process calculations & mass balance data
    • Production of Process Flow Diagrams (P&IDs)
    • Basis of Design reports
    • Design sketches and technical drawings
  • Conduct outline/detailed process design for projects
  • Lead site visits for data acquisition and meetings with site operators
  • Provide technical input in procurement processes, including
    • Evaluating supplier proposals
  • Act as a technical liaison for Project Managers with clients
  • Engage in HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study), HAZID (Hazard Identification), ENVID (Environmental Impact Reviews), and SWIFT Reviews
  • Technical coaching & mentoring of junior staff
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure alignment between process engineering and overall project design, delivering to time, cost, and quality standards
  • Contribute to proposals, work scope, schedules, and budget planning
  • Maintain strong client relations, ensuring their needs are met and expectations are surpassed

What We Look for in You

Discover how you can make an impact as a WSP Associate Waste Water Process Engineer:

  • Significant experience in process engineering design—acting as the ** técnicosc lead** for infrastructure projects, from feasibility studies to detailed design.
  • Proven expertise in municipal water and wastewater solutions, including:
    • Primary, secondary and tertiary treatments (filtration, chemical dosing, nutrient removal, ASP, MBR, MBBR, and other advanced biological treatments)
    • Understanding of the circular economy and Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) technologies
    • Experience in industrial or municipal sector municipal treatment plants
  • Consultancy experience in design recommendations, initial scoping, and procurement documentation
  • Ability to produce high-quality technical reports, calculations, and presentations for diverse stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills—able to engage confidently, lead client meetings, and present to high-level professionals and but subcontractors
  • Leadership of multi-disciplinary meetings and representation of the technical team
  • Ability to travel internationally and assess operational performance safely in new and existing systems
