About the Role

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Associate Waste Water Process Engineer to join our Water Engineering teams in cities including Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Liverpool, London, Newcastle or Glasgow.

Working within multidisciplinary project design teams, you’ll play a key role in delivering process engineering design for challenging water engineering projects, including wastewater and water reuse projects nationwide and globally. Your tasks will range from feasibility and optioneering to detailed design for procurement, construction, and reviewing supplier proposals.

As an experienced Waste Water Process Engineer, you’ll collaborate with project teams to deliver high-quality, professional services for diverse and high-profile clients.


Key Responsibilities

  • Produce process design deliverables, such as:
    • Optioneering studies
    • Process calculations & mass balances
    • Process flow diagrams (P&IDs)
    • Piping and instrumentation drawings & sketches
    • Basis of design reports
  • Undertake outline or detailed process engineering design
  • Conduct site visits for data acquisition and engage with site operators
  • Provide technical input to procurement processes
  • Support Project Managers in discussions with clients
  • Liaise with technology providers and vendors
  • Attend HAZOP, HAZID, ENVID, and SWIFT meetings
  • Offer technical guidance, coaching, and supervision of junior staff
  • Work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to quality standards
  • Ensure integration of process engineering design into the broader project scope
  • Contribute to proposals, project scopes, schedules, and budgets
  • Maintain liaison with clients (internal/external) to ensure their needs are met

We’re Looking For You To Demonstrate

  • Significant experience in:
    • Leading process engineering design for infrastructure projects
    • Municipal water & wastewater sectors
    • Unsupervised preparation or review of technical deliverables (technical specifications, calculations, reports, P&IDs, mass balances, procurement documents)
  • Hands-on expertise in wastewater treatment solutions (primary, secondary, tertiary treatments), including:
    • Filtration, clarification, chemical dosing, phosphorus removal
    • Activated Sludge Process (ASP), Moving Bed Bio Reactor (MBBR), Membrane Bioreactor (MBR), and advanced biological treatments
  • Proficiency in circular economy principles and Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) processes
  • Experience in consultancies or engineering firms as a Process Engineer
  • Proven ability to:
    • Deliver technically robust reports and presentations (for senior audiences, clients, stakeholders)
    • Lead multi-disciplinary meetings (in-person/online)
    • Act as a technical representative for external clients
  • Willingness to travel to visit operational sites or construction projects
