At WSP, you can always find opportunities to grow and do what matters to you. Make the most of our global reach to discover new challenges and work with diverse, talented individuals who help expand your horizons.

About the Role

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Associate Waste Water Process Engineer to join our Water Engineering teams in the following locations:

  • Birmingham
  • Bristol
  • Manchester

As demand for our expertise grows, you’ll play a key role in delivering process engineering design across a range of water projects, including wastewater and water reuse initiatives across the UK and internationally. Within multidisciplinary project design teams, you’ll leverage your expertise in process engineering to optimise project solutions while supporting senior colleagues in delivering high-value services to clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver Process Design Artifacts: Produce optioneering studies, process calculations, mass balances, process flow diagrams, P&ID sketches, basis of design reports, and other deliverables to achieve optimal project solutions.
  • Lead Process Engineering Design: Develop detailed and outline designs, including studies, feasibility reports, concept designs, front-end engineering and design (FEED), and full project designs.
  • Fieldwork & Stakeholder Engagement: Attend site visits for data acquisition, stakeholder consultations, and performance assessments, engaging with operators and clients alike.
  • Procurement & Technical Guidance: Provide input during **procurement processes, supplier reviews, and technical specifications, ensuring alignment with project objectives.

  • Project Contributions: Provide input to proposals, work scopes, budgets, and schedules.
  • Technical Mentorship: Offer guidance, coaching, and mentorship to junior team members while participating in safety and risk assessments (e.g., HAZOP, HAZID, HAZIP, ENVID, SWIFT).

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
