Drive technical excellence and lead the delivery of critical bridge engineering projects.
Our Client has a requirement for Principal Bridge Engineers, who will be required to work on a contract basis across their Manchester/Leeds/Birmingham/Reading offices.
Role Purpose:
Provide technical leadership to deliver defined packages of bridge and structural engineering work
- Take accountability for quality, programme, and technical oversight within a multi-disciplinary team
Job Role Responsibilities:
- Lead delivery of small to medium work packages (inspection, assessment, design, or renewal schemes) to programme and budget
- Provide technical direction, checking, and approval of designs, calculations, and reports
- Mentor and guide junior engineers; support capability within the team
- Act as a key interface with clients and internal disciplines
- Ensure compliance with standards, specifications, and governance processes
- Contribute to planning, risk management, and commercial awareness on projects

Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent)
- Chartered Engineer (CEng MICE / MIStructE)
- Strong background in bridge/structures design, assessment, or asset management
- Demonstrable experience leading technical delivery of projects
- Proficient in relevant design codes, analysis methods, and reporting
- Effective communicator with ability to work across disciplines
Desirable:
- Experience working with Local Authority or rail-related structures
- Familiarity with asset management systems and inspection regimes
- Experience acting as CRE, checker, or design lead on projects
