Principal Business Analyst (INTERNAL)
Exciting 10 Month Secondment Opportunity for a Principal Business Analyst
This is a senior, organisation-wide leadership position responsible for leading the Business Analysis Centre of Expertise, managing a team of Business Analysts, and driving consistent standards and quality across complex business and digital change initiatives. The postholder will manage a core team of 11 Business Analysts, with the size of the team regularly flexing through the onboarding and management of additional contract analysts aligned to major programmes and service priorities. The role provides professional leadership for Business Analysis practice across the organisation, ensuring consistent standards, methods and quality. It works closely with senior stakeholders, Programme and Project Managers to support the delivery of complex, and often statutory, business and digital change. Working closely with senior stakeholders, the role supports delivery across a wide range of services, including those with statutory and legislative requirements. This is an excellent development opportunity for an experienced Business Analyst looking to step into a principal role and gain exposure at senior organisational level.
The role also includes estimating and managing Business Analysis work packages, overseeing and supporting third-party contractor resource, monitoring BA-related spend within project budgets, and contributing to delivery planning within complex, dependency-driven environments. The postholder will often work alongside front-line teams to understand current processes and enable change, sometimes involving exposure to sensitive or distressing material. High levels of professionalism, empathy and diplomacy are therefore essential. The role operates across all services and requires the ability to quickly build a strong understanding of legislation, regulation and service contexts. This may include, for example:
- safeguarding and data protection considerations when working with Children’s Services, and
- legislative and system change requirements within Adult Social Care (including the Care Act and Integrated Care Systems).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
