The Role
This flexible CDM (Construction (Design and Management) Regulations) & H&S (Health & Safety) Consultancy position requires a highly skilled practitioner to provide strategic guidance, compliance support, and expertise to existing and new clients from our Newcastle office.
Key Responsibilities
1. Client-Facing & Advisory Services
- Proactively understand clients’ needs, identifying tailored solutions to their CDM and H&S challenges
- Deliver expert consultancy, including:
- Acting as Principal Designer where required
- Advising on legal compliance under CDM regulations
- Managing client expectations while aligning with Turner & Townsend’s standards
- Build trust with clients by demonstrating professionalism, timeliness, and proactive engagement

2. Health & Safety & CDM Management
- Conduct H&S performance reviews and audits on behalf of clients
- Develop and optimise CDM and H&S systems and processes for efficiency
- Compile pre-construction information and H&S documentation
- Ensure compliance with Turner & Townsend’s business management systems
3. Stakeholder Coordination
- Collaborate with Wider H&S Teams (SHQ) and colleagues to maintain team efficiency, consistency, and profitability
- Represent Turner & Townsend professionally in meetings, negotiations, and communications
4. Operational & Compliance Oversight
- Manage assigned commissions to ensure scope alignment with client expectations and Turner & Townsend policies
- Adherence to SOX controls (where applicable)
Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate
- Full UK driving licence
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) for CDM/H&S expertise
- GradIOSH (Graduate Membership of the International Occupational Safety & Health) or equivalent
- Membership of the Association for Project Safety (APS)
- Proven experience as a Principal Designer
- Strong commercial and technical intuition for health and safety compliance
- Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to plan, prioritise, and meet deadlines under pressure
