Principal Civil Design Engineer - Transmission & Distribution

The Opportunity

The UK energy sector is undergoing a seismic shift, driven by rising demand, tighter regulations, and ambitious net-zero targets. This transformation is creating unprecedented opportunities to deliver innovative, sustainable infrastructure that will shape the future of energy.

We are looking to connect with talented Principal Civil Design Engineers who are passionate about the energy sector and motivated to make a tangible difference. This role offers the opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of projects—from renewable energy and interconnectors to substations and complex infrastructure schemes—while contributing directly to the UK’s energy transition.

Joining our growing team means becoming part of a collaborative, forward-thinking environment with ambitious plans and exciting opportunities for career development across the business.

About The Role

As a Principal Civil Design Engineer, you will play a leading role in the delivery of civil engineering solutions across a wide range of energy projects. These may include Energy from Waste, solar, wind farms, substations, overhead lines, interconnectors, and connection schemes.

Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will support both FEED and detailed design phases, ensuring that civil design elements are delivered to a high standard and aligned with overall project objectives. Day to day, you will be responsible for developing technical solutions, producing detailed designs, and supporting Project Managers and Team Leaders in delivering successful project outcomes.

This role offers the opportunity to work at the interface of multiple disciplines, contributing your expertise to complex and technically challenging projects while building strong relationships with clients and colleagues.

Your Impact

In this role, you will play a key part in delivering the civil engineering foundations that enable critical energy infrastructure to be built, upgraded, and maintained. Your designs will directly support the development of sustainable energy solutions, helping clients meet environmental targets while improving efficiency and resilience across the network.

Through your technical leadership and problem-solving approach, you will contribute to the successful delivery of projects from concept through to construction, ensuring that solutions are practical, innovative, and aligned with industry standards. Your collaboration with multidisciplinary teams will help integrate civil design seamlessly into wider project delivery, driving better outcomes for clients.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
