Job Description
As a Principal Civil Engineer in our Engineering Services business, you will play a critical role in leading our civil engineering projects managing a dedicated team of highly skilled civil and structural engineers. You will champion excellence within the discipline, offering guidance and support to foster team development while aligning with InoRail’s long-term strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as Contractor Responsible Engineer (CRE) across a range of engineering projects across all stages of design.
- Lead and coordinate civil engineering projects from inception to completion.
- Foster a collaborative and positive team culture.
- Support junior engineers with professional development.
- Oversee project budgets, timelines, and resource allocation.
- Support the development of proposals.
- Understand design procedures, change control, checking and review requirements, ensuring compliance with CDM design risk assessments, HSE and Quality procedures.
- Collaborate with clients to understand project requirements and ensure client satisfaction.
- Build relationships with our clients and highlight opportunities relevant to Civil Engineering.
- Keep abreast of industry trends and innovations to drive continuous improvement.
- Be part of the Senior Leadership team, contributing to the long-term development of the InoRail business

Required Experience
- Demonstratable experience in a senior Civil Engineering role, acting as CRE or PE
- Ideally Chartered (CEng/IEng) with the Institution of Civil Engineers or similar
- Experience in team leadership, or an aspiration to develop in line management (it is not necessary to have previous experience of line management, but a desire to support development of staff).
- Proven track record in Civil Engineering and Project Management.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Have the ability to work successfully with clients.
- Knowledge of industry standards, safety regulations, and best practices.
- Demonstrate the ability to identify and input to activities in support of the wider business objectives that may draw upon skills in addition to those outlined above.
