We are recruiting on behalf of a leading service provider in the wastewater industry for an experienced Principal Civil Engineer to strengthen their team.
📍 Location: Rickmansworth, hybrid working available

Principal Civil Engineer Role
Help us enhance our engineering team by taking on this key position. As a Principal Civil Engineer, you will report directly to the Regional Design Lead (RDL) and ensure the delivery of high-quality engineering design services.
Your responsibilities include maintaining sector compliance, optimising cost efficiency, and driving profitability across turnkey and engineering services contracts.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop cost-effective design solutions that meet specifications while ensuring efficient construction and commissioning. Consider factors such as design time, materials, installation, and cross-discipline impacts.
- Apply standardised practices to maintain competitiveness and operational efficiency.
- Provide precisely estimated cost inputs and collaborate with the Proposals department.
- Adhere to established processes and standards to support the department’s growth.
- Participate in process development, review, and continuous improvement.
- Maintain accurate project records throughout contract duration.
- Cultivate a customer-centric culture, balancing end-users and internal departments.
- Develop and manage a personal development plan.
- Supervise, mentor, and guide team members.
- Ensure a safe working environment for staff.
- Minimise operational waste and optimise resource usage.
- Prioritise environmental sustainability in all designs.
- Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations.

Requirements
Essential Criteria
✔ Strong knowledge of water and wastewater treatment principles. ✔ Experience managing and mentoring design teams for wastewater-related disciplines. ✔ Membership (chartered or on track for substantiation) of a recognised professional engineering body. ✔ Degree-level qualification in Civil Engineering (or HND as minimum requirement). ✔ Proven ability to rationalise designs and optimise layouts and efficiency. ✔ Broad engineering knowledge across:
- Mechanical
- Process
- Electrical
- Project management ✔ Valid UK driving licence.

Desirable (but not Mandatory)
✅ Actively working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status. ✅ Postgraduate Master’s degree in Engineering.
