Job Summary

Langan is seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to join its collaborative team in London. This individual will serve a key function in the planning, design, and permitting of civil engineering, land development, and infrastructure projects. In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in site/civil engineering design for mixed-use developments, shopping centers, residential, higher education, federal, and other exciting land development projects.


Job Responsibilities

  • Lead planning, design, and permitting for civil/site and infrastructure projects using engineering software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D) in collaboration with Project Engineers.
  • Effectively uses software, reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, tests, aerial photographs, and guidelines and manuals to assess soil composition, terrain, hydraulic and hydrological characteristics, and topographical and geologic data to plan and design projects.
  • Leads tasks associated with the preparation and modification of various engineering documents including reports, specifications, plans, cost estimates and designs for projects.
  • Perform feasibility analyses, cost calculations, and sustainability assessments for development projects.
  • Manage project tasks within established budgets and schedules.
  • Coordinate and perform field inspections, as required.
  • Prepare, review, and finalize technical reports (e.g., stormwater, utilities, feasibility studies).
  • Collaborate with Technical Directors on proposals, budgets, and invoice reviews.
  • Communicate and interface effectively with clients, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Apply engineering principles, advanced mathematics, and sustainability/resiliency best practices to project work.
  • Review and ensure quality of work produced by staff.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and mentor staff, including engineers and interns; support training and professional development.
  • Collaborate across offices and disciplines, supporting cross-functional project needs and training initiatives.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
  • Maintain current knowledge of engineering practices, regulations, and safety standards; actively participate in professional organizations and training.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years’ experience in site/civil design, including site planning, grading, stormwater; management, drainage, and soil erosion is desired;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering;
  • Proven track record of delivering Data Centers for Hyperscale Clients preferred;
  • Knowledge of sustainability and resiliency best practices;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Ability to multi-task effectively;
  • Excellent analytical and judgment capabilities;
  • Ability to work well individually and within groups;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong AutoCAD and Civil 3D design skills;
  • Ability to oversee, coach and train staff;
  • Ability to occasionally participate in site visits and work during evenings and/or weekends, as needed by project schedule;
  • Occasional travel to project sites and/or client locations, as required;
  • Must have a valid driver’s license;
  • Available to work approximately 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
