Job Description
The Design Authority undertakes a vital role in ensuring that key defence infrastructure is safe and fit for purpose.
We are looking for an experienced Civil Engineer to support the technical capability of the Client Design Authority (DA). This role will be suited to engineers with experience in Civil design.
🛠️ Key Responsibilities
- Deliver technical excellence in the specification, production, and assessment of engineering design packages for infrastructure.
- Carry out plant walkdowns and produce associated Periodic Safety Review (PSR) deliverables.
- Specify reliability requirements and operational constraints for infrastructure to support safe and efficient operations.
- Assess work control procedures for the maintenance of infrastructure, ensuring compliance with engineering and safety standards.
- Evaluate infrastructure design, material condition, equipment qualification, and ageing mechanisms to enable the continued safe operation of facilities and utilities.
- Champion a strong safety and security culture, ensuring safety remains at the forefront of all activities.
- Act as an Intelligent Customer, ensuring the outputs of safety-related contracts meet contractual obligations, regulatory requirements, and engineering standards.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contractors to deliver high-quality engineering solutions that support operational excellence.

Qualifications
💼 Experience
- Experience in the design assessment of reinforced concrete and steelwork structures to withstand dynamic loads, including earthquakes, blast, wind, rain, and snow loading.
- Experience working on reinforced concrete and steel marine structures, including jetties and waterfront infrastructure.
- Produce robust technical justifications to support civil and structural design modifications within a high-hazard engineering environment.
- Apply engineering principles to the design, development, manufacture, construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance, decommissioning, and recycling of engineering systems, services, and products in a nuclear or other high-risk environment.
- Utilise a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge to apply both existing and emerging technologies to complex engineering challenges.
⭐ Desirable
- Experience within a highly regulated environment is advantageous but not essential.
- Familiarity with safety case development techniques, including HAZID and HAZOP studies.
✅ Essential
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status, or equivalent professional experience.
⭐ Desirable
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or equivalent professional experience.

Staff or umbrella contractor
Requires sole UK national with SC clearance.
Mainly remote working with 1-2 days per month at Faslane.
