We seek an experienced Principal Civil Engineer to support our energy team’s expansion and shape sustainable infrastructure’s future. This role will involve supporting projects in the Renewables & Transmission & Distribution teams.
Location: Hybrid (options include Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, London – Aldgate Tower, Perth). Flexible hybrid working is available.
You should be passionate about engineering excellence and eager to work on ground-breaking energy projects across the UK, Ireland, Europe, and beyond.
What Can We Offer?
As a Principal Civil Engineer, your key responsibilities include:
- Leading technical feasibility studies and design reports
- Project oversight—ensuring timelines, budgets, and client needs are met
- Coordinating multidisciplinary teams for energy infrastructure (onshore/offshore wind, solar PV, hydroelectric, grids, battery storage)
- Advancing UK T&D (11KV–400KV) projects and helping the Energy Transition
Scope of Work: Onshore wind Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Hydroelectric (run-of-river and pumped storage) Grid infrastructure (substations, overhead lines) Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

What You’ll Do
Senior responsibilities include:
- Lead technical verification of feasibility studies, design reports, and project deliverables.
- Day-to-day project management in collaboration with clients, utilities, and private developers.
- Multidisciplinary design leadership, including roads, drainage, civil structures, and external works.
- Ensuring compliance with UK standards, including BS EN codes, Eurocodes, and CDM Regulations.
- Conducting site inspections, resolving technical queries, and delivering high-quality technical documentation.
- Supporting proposal submissions and technical bids for emerging projects.
- Service in faculty roles or mentorship of junior engineers.
- Support ahead of potentially transitioning to strategic ownership positions.

Qualifications
A bold start to engineering excellence
Minimum Requirements:
- BEng (Hons) or equivalent in Civil Engineering (any discipline).
- Chartered status (or actively pursuing ICE chartership) highly desirable.
- Proven experience in energetic projects, preferably in transmission/distribution (11KV–400KV).
- Strong report-writing and design documentation skills (mandatory).
- Technical + project management experience; team leadership trait.

- Deep knowledge of UK energy sector projects.
- Proficiency with National Grid Technical Specifications (NGTS) or CDAE status.
- Experience with systems like EPS for Civil/Technical Design.
