Principal Clinical Psychologist

Clinical Psychologist – Part-Time Role (Inherited Bleeding Disorders)

About the Role

An exciting part-time opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist to join our multidisciplinary inherited bleeding disorders team in the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB), North Wales.

You will collaborate with physiotherapy, nursing, and medical colleagues across a pan-BCU service to enhance the health and psychological well-being of individuals affected by inherited bleeding disorders. Key partnerships include South Wales services, Haemophilia Psychology Association, Haemophilia Wales, and the North Wales Doctoral Clinical Psychology Training Course.

Key Responsibilities

Core Mandates

  • Provide psychological assessments and interventions tailored to clients with inherited bleeding disorders.
  • Foster healthcare access and engagement through collaboration with service colleagues.
  • Lead service development initiatives, offering consultation, teaching, and support.
  • Facilitate cross-specialty collaboration, particularly with gynaecology and obstetrics services.
  • Support trainee development, continuing professional development (CPD), and research opportunities.

Governance and Leadership

  • Oversee psychological practice governance to ensure high-quality care aligned with team policies and frameworks.
  • Manage and supervise designated staff (up to and including Senior level), including:
    • Staff appraisals and performance-related discussions (PADR).
    • Informal grievance procedures.
  • Contribute to local team policies and procedures for continuous service improvement.

Advisory and Training Roles

  • Advise service/management on psychological and organisational matters.
  • Deliver clinical placements and supervision for Doctoral-level trainee clinical psychologists.
  • Train non-psychologist colleagues in psychological competencies.

Research and Recruitment

  • Conduct audit, service development, and research projects, leveraging specialised research skills.
  • Act as a panel member in designated staff recruitment processes.
  • Support Consultant Clinical Psychologists in the day-to-day service management.

Requirements & Person Specification

Professional Registration

  • Essential: Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and adherence to the British Psychological Society’s Code of Conduct.

Experience (Essential)

  • Proven experience working with clients presenting complex physical health conditions as a qualified Clinical Psychologist.
  • Experience supervising staff without psychologist credentials.
  • Experience teaching and training non-psychologist professionals.

Service Development & Publication

  • Essential: Demonstrated evidence of service development and quality improvement achievements.
  • Desirable:
    • Further post-qualification supervision training.
    • Formal skills development (e.g., Independent Qualifications in Teaching – IQT; Betsiway modules).
    • Published research with relevance to your field.
