Principal Clinical Psychologist - Early Help
Job Opportunity: Senior Clinical Psychologist – Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) Early Help Lead
Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate leader and manager to collaborate in the development of Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) Early Help services in Gwynedd and Mon, joining an existing managerial and operational structure. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior clinician to build on established preventative and early intervention approaches while improving emotional wellbeing and mental health outcomes for babies, children, young people, families, and carers.
Working strategically across health, education, social care, and the third sector, you will lead service transformation, ensuring the 0-18 year population receives timely, accessible, and compassionate care. Your guidance will be aligned with BCUHB and Welsh Government priorities, including:
- NEST framework (mental health and wellbeing: link to GOV.WALES)
- Whole-school emotional and mental wellbeing approach (link to GOV.WALES)
- Welsh Health and Care Quality Standards 2023 (WHC/2023/013)
Main Duties
- A new key role in service development and leadership, focusing on:
- Supervising, training, and coaching CAMHS Early Help Practitioners
- Promoting practice-based research and practice enquiry to enhance service quality

Collaboration on local CAMHS Early Help policies, procedures, and their implementation, ensuring service improvements.

Utilising highly specialised research skills to inform:
- Audit & evidence-based decision-making
- Policy development
- Regional and national service enhancements linked with West CAMHS Early Help

Provide consultancy to schools and communities on mental health proficiency.

Extensive travel across the region required.

Requirements
Qualifications
- Essential Criteria
- Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent for pre-1996 accredited applicants, via British Psychological Society).
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Clinical Psychologist.
- Clinical supervision training for supervising doctoral trainees.
Experience
- Essential Criteria
- Substantial experience as a qualified, senior clinical psychologist, including post-qualification expertise in the CAMHS field or equivalent speciality.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multi-disciplinary collaboration at senior levels (internal/external).
- Desirable Criteria
- Cultural psychology knowledge in diverse settings.
- Familiarity with staff management for clinical psychologists and allied teams.
Skills
- Essential Criteria
- Fluent in Welsh (spoken).
- Desirable Criteria
- Leadership and managerial expertise.
- Advanced IT proficiency.
