Job Overview

This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to contribute to the acute Older Adult functional and dementia inpatient care in North Wales.

As a senior post, you will provide psychological leadership, oversight, and expertise in acute care Older Adult psychology services within the BCUHB East area. Your role will focus on:

  • Guiding the biopsychosocial multidisciplinary team (MDT) for acute Older Adult functional and dementia care
  • Leading MDT interventions in inpatient dementia settings
  • Providing expert advice, consultation, training, and supervision on psychological approaches within these specialist pathways
  • Delivering direct psychological assessments, interventions, and support to service users and families in Wrexham and Flintshire

Potential: This post is advertised concurrently with Adult Mental Health Acute Care Principal Clinical Psychologist roles. Inquires can be made if interested in a combined role.


Key Responsibilities

To act as an integrated, senior member of the inpatient multidisciplinary mental health team, you will:

  • Deliver a specialised clinical psychology service, including assessment, therapy, and staff consultation
  • Work autonomously, adhering to BPS Ethical Guidelines (2004) and HCPC standards
  • Plan and deliver individual and group interventions, with or through MDT collaboration
  • Carry a specialist caseload of adult patients with complex mental health diagnoses, including:
    • Neuropsychological assessments
    • Sophisticated formulations
    • Evidence-based interventions (both one-to-one and group)
  • Provide clinical leadership through:
    • Supporting best-practice assessment, formulation, and interventions
    • Offering expert advice on complex cases to other health professionals
    • Acting as a resource for wider multidisciplinary teams
  • Ensure the psychological input aligns with acute care needs

#### Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential Criteria

  • Degree in Psychology (minimum Honours).
  • Eligibility for BPS Chartered status.
  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent pre-1996 accredited route via BPS).
  • HCPC registration as a clinical psychologist.

Desirable Criteria

  • Advanced knowledge in specialised psychological therapies (e.g., personality disorder treatment, dual diagnoses, complex/comorbid disabilities).
  • Proficiency in neuropsychological assessment principles.

#### Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Substantial post-qualification experience as a senior clinical psychologist (preferably within Older Adult or acute mental health care).
  • Documented expertise in Hickam's priority designated speciality through:
    • Association with specialist training/experience in Clinical Psychology or related field.
    • Held extensive focused clinical supervision relevant to this specialty.

Desirable Criteria

  • Clinical exposure in multicultural contexts and experience leading psychology within multidisciplinary teams.

#### Competencies

Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrated high-level competence within acute Older Adult specialised care.
  • Confident in doctoral-level methodologies, including complex multivariate data analysis (applied as used in clinical psychology).

Desirable Criteria

  • Proficiency in Welsh; bilingual applicants encouraged to apply.
