Clinical Psychologist – Psychological Development & Training Role
Job Overview
This is a very exciting opportunity to help make a real difference in increasing access to psychological services across stepped care mental health services in North Wales.
You will take a leadership role in:
- Psychological development
- Training
- Supervision
- Supporting multidisciplinary staff in access initiatives within primary and community mental health.
The role offers professional leadership support from AMH Clinical Psychology & Psychological Services, with excellentes clinical and research links to the School of Psychology and DClinPsych Department at the University of Wales, Bangor. North Wales’ stunning countryside and growing healthcare opportunities make this a great place to work.
Key Details
- Position type: Full-time equivalent (18.75 hrs)
- Location: Central area of North Wales
- Language preference: Welsh is desirable—both Welsh and English speakers are strongly encouraged to apply.
Main Responsibilities
The Clinical Psychologist will:
- Lead service improvements in North Wales, supporting the implementation of Matrics Cymru.
- Provide clinical oversight, training, and supervision for psychological therapies.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across mental health services.
- Foster ongoing professional growth through mentorship and peer networks.
- Work towards enhancing the quality of psychological therapies.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Knowledge (Essential)
- Honours degree in Psychology with eligibility for BPS Chartered status
- Registration with the HCPC as a Clinical Psychologist
- A post-graduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, or an equivalent recognised qualification for pre-1996 graduates.

Additional Skills (Desirable)
- Advanced research training in design and methodology
- Formal training in clinical supervision
Experience (Essential)
- Substantial experience as a qualified Clinical Psychologist
- Significant supervised post-qualification expertise and experience in adult mental health
- Specialised training available in areas of clinical supervision, mentoring, research, and leadership.
Attributes & Competencies (Essential)
- Exceptional professional judgement and ability to utilise emotional intelligence effectively.
- Proficient in complex interpersonal communication, with empathy for sensitive information in high-stress settings.
- Ability to mitigate psychological resistance while maintaining professionalism.
Desirable Skills
- Basic or intermediate Welsh language skills
Operational Requirements
- Capacity to demonstrate resilience and flexibility in an evolving service environment.
- Ability to travel and meet deadlines within an expectation of attending18.75 hours/week.
