Clinical Psychologist – Stepped Care Mental Health Services (North Wales) – Part-Time Role

Job Overview

This is a very exciting opportunity to help increase access to psychological services across stepped care mental health services in North Wales.

You will take a leadership role in:

  • Psychological development
  • Training and supervision
  • Supporting multidisciplinary staff
  • Increasing access initiatives across primary and community mental health services

You will receive professional leadership from the AMH Clinical Psychology & Psychological Services team at BetsiCadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB), with:

  • Strong clinical and research links with the School of Psychology and the DClinPsych Department at the University of Wales, Bangor
  • Opportunity to contribute to service development in line with Matrics Cymru
  • Collaborative work with Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) colleagues
  • Staff support within the role

The role is part-time (18.75 hours), based in the Central area of North Wales, offering an excellent quality of life in a region currently undergoing transformation and growth.

Language: Welsh language proficiency is desirable, but applicants fluent in English (or Welsh) are equally welcome.


Core Responsibilities

The post holder will:

  • Leverage BCUHB-wide professional links across North Wales Clinical Psychology
  • Engage in research and clinical networking (both locally and regionally)
  • Benefit from ongoing mentorship, peer support, and career advancement
    • Join an initiative supporting improved psychological therapies quality assurance
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of MATICS Cymru locally

Essential

  • Good Honours degree in Psychology
  • Eligible for BPS Chartered status
  • Registration with the HCPC as a Clinical Psychologist
  • Post-graduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent for pre-1996 trainees) as accredited by the BPS

Desirable

  • Advanced training in research design and methodology
  • Formal training in clinical supervision

Experience

Essential

  • Substantial post-qualification experience as a qualified Clinical Psychologist
  • Focus in adult mental health, including:
    • Independent certified supervision
    • Research, mentoring, specialist courses
    • Clinical supervision with a specialisation in managing psychological services delivery

Desirable

  • Prior experience working in primary or community mental health

Aptitude & Abilities

Essential

  • High-level interpersonal and communication skills
    • Ability to convey/receive complex and sensitive psychological information
    • Empathy while managing resistance to potentially threatening material
    • Maintain professionalism in highly emotive environments

Desirable

  • Ability to speak or understand Welsh
  • Competent driving skills (may be required for duties)
